Summary of the Position: The Catholic Diocese of Columbus, located at 197 East Gay Street, Columbus, is looking for a qualified individual to join its staff.
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Columbus Diocese, the Assistant Superintendent for Strategic Initiatives works to implement the Real Future, Real Presence: Our Catholic Schools vision document. He/she will primarily focus on providing direct support to diocesan owned and/or operated schools, training and guiding school boards, guiding the implementation of new curricular models, among other projects. The position is expected to use personal judgment in carrying out routine duties and responsibilities of the Office.
Job Responsibilities for the position:
- Promote the vision, mission, and core values of the Office of Catholic Schools and the Diocese of Columbus.
- Provide support, guidance, coaching, and consultation to the principals and administrators of diocesan owned and/or operated high schools and elementary schools. First point of contact for administrators and parents for issues and questions relating to these schools.
- Creatively build and shape the design of strategic initiatives and determine success metrics.
- Work closely with governing and advisory boards to represent the diocese and to provide resources, support, and training to board members.
- Regularly visit assigned schools to provide on-site consultation and service. Assess compliance with policies and procedures of the diocese and assist superintendent in evaluation of the principal.
- Develop implementation plans for new school models, including governance and curriculum models, in collaboration with teams of stakeholders. Cultivate and incubate schools with new models, adhering to the strategic plan document.
- Lead the operations team in the Office of Catholic Schools.
- Provide high quality, sustainable, data driven, and research based professional development for teachers and administrators.
Education: Master’s degree is required. Additionally, professional development is mandatory to remain current in best educational practices; Educator's License from the State of Ohio.
Experience: One-year of related experience is required. Maintain membership and participation
in appropriate national, regional, and organizations as required. May include travel to relevant
conferences and reporting back on what is learned from these events.
Job Related Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both in written format and oral
presentation; ability to maintain organization, multi-task and establish priorities; exhibits
initiative, responsibility and flexibility; ability to research issues using expert materials available
on the Internet; requires excellent analytical skills and concern for details and must be proficient
in MS Office software – Word, Excel.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills when
dealing with co-workers, students, families and the general public.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals,
financial reports, legal documents or government regulations; ability to respond to common
inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies or members of the business and general
community at large.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic accounting functions using automated system;
ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and
interpret bar graphs; ability to manipulate, interpret, and analyze numbers.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to communicate sensitive information; ability to define problems,
collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret a variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Working Environment: Practice the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality; organize workload, and multi-task; work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attendance at evening meetings and events will be required periodically.
Job offer is contingent on the successful passing of the mandatory background screening and completion of the VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children” course. Compensation is commensurate with candidate’s experience.
