St. Mary's Catholic School in Taylor, Texas, is currently seeking an Elementary Classroom/Religion Teacher for delivery of our classical methodologies in a self-contained classroom.
The oldest private school in the county (125 years old!), SMCS serves PK3-12th grade students. Job Summary
The Middle School Athletic Director/Coach/PE Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by assisting the administration in the development of a comprehensive PE and athletic program to promote student health, athletic skill, and safety. The Middle School Athletic Director/Coach/PE Teacher works in collaboration with the High School Athletic Director/Coach and has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.
Essential Duties
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Plan for instruction with logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum and submit plans according to the school policies.
- Provide appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning.
- Use effective instructional methods and models according to professional standard practice.
- Use varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments.
- Provide instruction and assessment for understanding.
- Maintain current and accurate records according to school policies.
- Practice positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom.
- Communicate with parents regarding academic, behavioral, and safety concerns.
- Maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to students, parents, and staff.
- Plans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive athletic program for students
- Models professional conduct, demeanor, and work habits
- Provides for the safety and well-being of student athletes by implementing safety guidelines and training of coaches and students
- Maintains, updates, and distributes athlete and coach handbooks annually
- Implements annual parent information and coach training sessions
- Ensures that all athletes have completed annual physicals, release/hold harmless forms, and required registration prior to participation
- Ensures that all coaches are compliant with EIM according to diocesan guidelines
- Ensures the school's compliance with athletic governance regulations
- Attends required meetings according to governance requirements
- Maintains athletic inventory including all clothing and equipment
- Coordinates the ordering process for new equipment, uniforms, player gear, fan and spirit gear, and any other products deemed necessary
- Maintains the school's athletic calendar in coordination with the master school calendar
- Administrates all on-campus athletic competitions, and ensures supervision of all off-campus events
- In conjunction with the principal, supervises, hires, and evaluates all coaches formally and informally
- Maintains current and accurate records according to school policy
- Communicates efficiently with coaches regarding registration, team assignments, schedules, and participation requirements
- Communicates with administration/faculty regarding need for early dismissals and events
- Manages expenditures for each sport according to budgetary expectations
- Oversees all sports fundraising activities
- Coordinates and manages middle school athletic department events, including but not limited to the athletic summer camps
- In collaboration with the High School AD/Coach, updates and maintains the athletic section on the school website
- Collaborates with peers to support program planning, including the coordination of schedules, field and gym use, and other facilities use
- Serves as a liaison to the Booster Club and advises regarding their activities, rules, and regulations
- Keeps abreast of current athletic and safety information through membership in relevant Associations
- Coordinates transportation for all school athletic events, when needed
- Completes coaching responsibilities as assigned according to Coach's job description
- Models sensible sportsmanship while instilling these characteristics within team members
- Conducts practice sessions and games according to local diocesan policy and league regulations
- Schedules practices and games
- Monitors the physical condition and fitness of participants and reports injuries to parents and school officials
- Continually monitors and supervises all activities of the participants at all practices and games
- Follows school and diocesan policies regarding academic eligibility
- Able to instruct athletes about proper strategy, skills, and rules of the game
- Able to motivate and support student athletes to perform optimally as an individual athlete and team member
- Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct
- Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming
- Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
- Participates in school-wide activities
- Attends liturgical or prayer services

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country.
Experience:
- 3 years or more of PE/Coaching Experience
Certifications and Training:
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB ED.
- Must meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration.
- Must complete Religion Certification Part 1 within two years of the date of hire, completing a minimum of 25 hours each year.
