Maryvale Preparatory School is seeking a long-term Upper School English Substitute for the 2023-2024 school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record focusing on writing, reading, and analysis. She/he must successfully pass a criminal background check. This position is exempt and will report directly to the Upper School Head.

Responsibilities include:

• Teach 11^th grade American Literature and 12^th grade World Literature
• Serve as an advisor in the Student Advisory Program
• Participate in the school community with other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree in English required; Master’s Degree preferred; MSDE certification preferred
• Experience working in an independent school setting preferred
• Willingness to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and parents
• Eagerness to embrace the mission and values of Maryvale and our connection to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur
• Commitment to equity and inclusion and have experience working with a diverse student population
• Commitment to single gender education for young women
• Genuine enthusiasm, personal warmth, and high energy level

Additional Requirements:

• Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment
• Subject to a Child Protection Services screening prior to employment
• Subject to a MSDE Employment History Review screening for Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
