The Technology Support Specialist duties include installing, modifying, and repairing computer hardware systems, software deployment via cloud-based MDM imaging, performing annual software renewals, and providing technical assistance and training to system end users. Additional duties include monitoring and maintaining Seaver College of Science and Engineering (SCSE) related infrastructure resources used for facilitating teaching, learning, and coursework content. The Technology Support Specialist position also supports major project initiatives, field testing, and recommendation of future hardware and software. This position will provide daily support to the Seaver College of Science and Engineering, including all public computing spaces, labs, group study rooms, staff conference rooms, performance spaces, and specialty rooms. This position reports directly to the Manager of Learning Space and Lab Technology, Information Technology Services. Day-to-day operational tasks and duties will be coordinated between the Manager of Learning Space and Lab Technology and an SCSE representative(s) designated by the college dean. Primary job functions require exercising discretion and independent judgment on a frequent basis.
Position Specific Accountabilities
- Provides excellent customer service to LMU students, faculty, & staff.
- Oversees the design, installation, maintenance and support of technology in the Seaver College of Science and Engineering, including classrooms, staff conference rooms, group study rooms, specialty labs, and event spaces.
- Manages installation of hardware and software in classrooms and labs including for devices running Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Creates and deploys software packages using JAMF for macOS and InTune for Windows.
- Manages annual license renewals for software such as Solidworks, ArcGIS, MATLAB, SketchUp, GeoStudio and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, among others.
- Coordinates with the Manager of Learning Space and Lab Technology the preventative maintenance of all instructors' workstations and associated equipment in general purpose classrooms and other learning spaces.
- Acts as a liaison for the Network and Server infrastructure teams to the Seaver College of Science and Engineering to effectively identify, communicate, and address issues or concerns.
- Gathers and/or creates information and maintains documentation on Seaver College of Science and Engineering computers and infrastructure resources including inventory asset management.
- Responds, diagnoses, and resolves client inquiries concerning systems operation, system hardware, and software problems. Researches complex issues related to software and hardware issues and identify solutions. Directs appropriate issues to other related support organizations.
- Organizes, tests, recommends, and implements new software or hardware options for Seaver College of Science and Engineering labs and classrooms.
- Recommends and develops preventive maintenance and asset refresh plans for computer labs and learning spaces, conference rooms, and other public computing areas.
- Maintains and updates labs in accordance with Information Technology policies and procedures.
- Provides updates, status, and completion information to appropriate manager, Director and/or the Vice President for Information Technology, through problem request tracking system, via voice mail, e-mail, Teams chat, or in-person communication.
- Represent LMU within online communities and at professional organizations or associations. Serve on committees as required.
- Trains ITS student workers on SCSE technology as requested.
- Assist with other ITS managed computer labs when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications
- Typically a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of changes in technology.
- Minimum 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Candidates with fluency in JAMF (macOS) and Microsoft InTune (Windows) MDM deployment and candidates with proficiency in scripting or PowerShell strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the integration and troubleshooting of software & scientific instruments.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office 365 ecosystem, especially Outlook and Teams.
- Familiarity with Box cloud content management system, as well as working knowledge of Zoom videoconferencing meetings/webinars. Familiarity with Echo360 asynchronous video capture platform a plus.
- Experience with technical documentation, technical training and troubleshooting, and/or technical instructional design strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with various types of peripherals including but not limited to, printers, scanners, external storage media, input devices, and lockdown devices.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical information to supported faculty, staff and students in a user-friendly manner.
- Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards end-users. Maintain professional dress and appearance
- Sound communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
- Ability to complete projects in a team environment and in a timely manner.
- A wide degree of creativity, latitude, and flexibility is expected.
- This position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
