Job DescriptionBoston College seeks an Applications Developer responsible for the analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, implementation, maintenance and enhancements of the technical components for various departmental and enterprise-wide third-party vendor software packages and custom in-house applications and integrations.
This individual will work closely with internal IT partners and project teams, as well as departmental partners to implement new solutions and maintain existing systems. The position will support the critical infrastructure for daily operations of our partners, focusing on the technical administration, maintenance, development, integrations, server and application patching and upgrades of critical systems in these areas. Some job duties are required to be performed on campus, a portion can be performed remotely.
This role will act as a member of ITS project teams and will utilize software development best practices and ensure that ITS architecture, security, quality and client business needs are met. Adhere to industry best practices and develop solutions that meet auditing and security requirements.
Proactively contribute and take on responsibility, setting best practices for the team, while being flexible, detail-oriented and passionate about meeting the needs of the client and ITS. Strong understanding of application and system architecture, application and database design, and data analysis and quality assurance techniques.
Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills are critical.
Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:
Senior Applications Developer - Salary up to 116K:
Minimum of five years of technical experience to include applications development and integration principles and concepts. Previous experience leading technical teams.
Applications Developer - Salary up to 95K:
Minimum of three years of programming experience and at least two years of data analysis, design and implementation experience to include working with user departments to define and assess business needs and programming requirements.
Associate Applications Developer - Salary up to 78K:
Minimum of one year of professional IT experience or 1-3 years as a non-exempt employee working in an IT environment.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant discipline.
- Working experience designing, developing and supporting custom applications and data integrations
- Strong SQL and PL/SQL knowledge, ability to write stored procedures/packages and functions
- Strong data analysis techniques and knowledge
- Experience with technical analysis of application and system inter-dependencies
- Experience developing test strategies, plans, and execute them
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- May be required to work additional hours to meet project/unit deadlines and time-frames.
Preferred:
- Experience developing and supporting Oracle APEX applications
- Experience implementing and supporting data integrations using IBM DataStage
- Strong understanding of Windows based infrastructure and applications
- Experience developing reporting models and reports with Cognos Framework Manager and Reports or other BI tools
- Ability to apply analysis techniques and procedures to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications and designs that meet the business needs of clients
- Familiarity with Higher Education Technology
