Serving as a member of corporate and foundation relations team, the Director of Development (DOD) is charged with creating and implementing strategies and tactics to cultivate, engage, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation donors which have focus areas that are in alignment with University priorities. Success is predicated on significant collaboration and complex communication with a heavy dose of project management prowess. The role includes deepening corporate and foundation partnerships with the goal of promoting connections across the institution as a whole, including engagement beyond traditional philanthropy. The Director of Development is personally responsible for soliciting and closing major gifts of $100,000 or more.

Position Specific Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Implement a comprehensive development plan to increase philanthropic support for funding priorities established by University Advancement Leadership. Convene working groups for institutional priorities. Focus on strategically identifying, engaging, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting gifts and sponsorships of $100,000 or more, and stewarding donors within the corporate and foundation constituency. In collaboration with Prospect Management and Research, proactively build, develop and manage a portfolio of 50-75 prospects, with a goal of having 25-30 prospects in the solicitation phase of the donor cycle during the course of the fiscal year. Execute at least 100 meaningful engagements and present 24+ proposals per year, with an expectation of escalating philanthropic goals. (40%)
Develop effective fundraising strategies in coordination and collaboration with the University Advancement leadership team. Promote cross-campus partnerships and interdisciplinary collaborations. Collaborate with all University Advancement partners including unit-based and centralized development officers, senior vice president, provost, deans, faculty, Advancement Information Services, and Special Events to achieve annual and campaign development goals. Strategically coordinate strategies for solicitations with University Advancement partners. Actively involve the University leadership, department heads, faculty, and key volunteers in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation process as appropriate. (20%)
Develop and implement impactful and innovative stewardship plans for CFR donors, tailored specifically to align with the funders' goals and focus. This will include all grant deliverables, thank-view campaigns, feature articles in LMU Impact, volunteer engagement opportunities, and more. (30%)
Manage all aspects of grant deliverables and reporting requirements for donors in the DoD portfolio, including mid-term and annual reporting, stewardship letters, executive thank you letters, campus visits and tours. Also responsible for coordinating intake processes for new grants and grant payments (including with Advancement Info Services, Finance Office, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, and Controller's Office) and attending post-award meetings, entering and tracking deliverable dates, updating deliverables and overseeing LMU team/liaising with grantors as needed on no-cost extensions/budget modifications, communicating with faculty, helping to develop report content, reviewing reports prior to submission, creating contact reports, saving final deliverable documents for CFR recordkeeping, and submitting deliverables and ensuring they are met in a timely manner. Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Bachelor's Degree. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes. Seeking professionals with varied backgrounds, abilities, experiences, thoughts and ideas.
Minimum five years of experience in development or a related field, preferably in higher education. A track record that demonstrates solid fundraising results and demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts. This includes the ability to plan, organize and implement fundraising activities effectively, as well as participate in high-level individual, corporate, and/or foundation solicitations. Experience in promoting and coordinating the involvement of volunteers. Experience should be in progressively responsible positions.
Demonstrated ability to: set priorities; coordinate multiple projects; personally ask and close gifts; utilize a creative approach to fundraising projects; and effectively communicate the vision, values and mission of Loyola Marymount University, while capturing the interest of the prospect. Willingness to travel and work occasional weekend/evening hours. Ability to deal effectively and comfortably with high-level donor prospects. High energy and goal-oriented, as well as organized and personable.
Demonstrated successful experience working with boards comprising prominent corporate and community volunteers and alumni.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues across multiple areas (i.e., academics, communications, business and finance, administration, government and community relations, external partnerships) to bring projects to completion successfully.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral), as evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
Demonstrated computer competency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and preferably with knowledge of Advance or other comparable CRM databases.
Proven donor and/or customer relationship management skills.
Excellent writing skills, including grant writing expertise.
Ability to efficiently and effectively lead big pieces of work from ideation to value creation without holding positional power.
Build and maintain trust and credibility.
Intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and the ability to improvise.
Project management experience with great attention to detail.

Reasonable Expected Salary:
$100,000 - $120,000/annually
