Long-term Substitute, Upper School English

The Long-term Substitute, Upper School English is a contracted employee who works to instruct a rigorous English curriculum. This position is covering a leave of absence and the selected individual will work closely with all English teachers in grades 9 – 12 for support. The individual hired will teach 2 sections of Honors American Literature and 2 sections of CP American Literature.

*This position runs from January 6th to April 28th*

Responsibilities:

· Provide classroom instruction about the structure and content of the English language, including proper grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.

· Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.

· Follow the detailed lesson plans left by the teacher who is on leave.

· Provide classroom management to create a culture of academic achievement.

· Monitor student progress and assist students in accomplishing established learning objectives.

· Provide timely feedback to students and their parents on coursework and progress.

· Promptly communicate, providing detailed feedback on exams according to a rubric.

· Collaborate with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.

· Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in English Literature or related field is required. Master’s degree is strongly preferred.

· Minimum of 1 year teaching experience preferred.

· Current Ohio teaching certification.

· Possesses a comprehensive understanding of best practices for 9 - 12 English education.

· Demonstrate a passion for English and drive to motivate students to do their best.

· Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

· Effective verbal and written communication.

· Proficient in MS Word and Outlook.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract, Temporary

Schedule:

· One two days, three classes meet; on three days, two classes meet

· Day shift

· Monday to Frida
