Job Overview

By leveraging the expertise of the University EVPs, deans, faculty, departments, institutes, and schools, these new investment concepts will relate both to societal/institutional imperatives and to the philanthropic objectives of the university.
The Associate Director will work with key university leadership to identify promising concepts and develop projects worthy of investment by donors with a particular focus on preparing the university's transformative, cross-campus strategic initiatives ('Big Ideas') and major capital projects for the campaign.
As well, they will advance the portfolio of projects led by the Director of Strategic Initiatives, which represent new investment concepts that relate both to societal imperatives and to the philanthropic objectives of the university and its donors, providing expert consultation on translating approved faculty-generated ambitions and strategic plans into opportunities primed for philanthropic engagement. This work is designed to drive at least $1 billion in fundraising potential for the current campaign.
In the space of capital projects, the Associate Director's work will include partnering with key university leaders in Advancement, Planning and Facilities Management, Finance, and the Offices of the President and Provost to ready the university's pipeline of major capital investments for fundraising, including by designing each project's campaign narrative and opportunities for naming as well as developing supporting resources for frontline fundraising colleagues. With each initiative, the Associate Director will work with others to ensure the readiness of the idea for philanthropic engagement and articulate the value of the proposed project to a prospective donor or donors.
Additionally, they will collaborate directly with frontline fundraising colleagues to design custom solicitations and proposals with a particular focus on capital project solicitations as well as Principal and Transformative (P&T) donor proposals of $5 million and above. This work may entail leading strategy consultations, writing proposal material, or developing internal resources, in addition to collaborating with relevant campus leadership.
The Associate Director will help oversee project responsibilities of analysts and senior analysts on the Strategic Initiatives team, ensuring the quality of work outputs from inception to final delivery. Success in this role requires exceptional conceptual and analytical ability, detailed knowledge of Georgetown's academic mission and programs of higher education, outstanding writing skills, creativity and intellectual vitality, extraordinary analytical abilities, strong collaborative skills, and a commitment to the continuing improvement of concepts and projects. Also essential are experience in new program development, the ability to manage complex projects and initiatives, effectiveness and persistence in engaging the support of multiple stakeholders to achieve shared objectives, and a respect for the practicalities of implementation.
