The Woods Academy is currently seeking a Director of Development to oversee the fundraising and community-building efforts of the school. This position will begin during the summer of 2023 at a mutually agreeable date. The Director of Development serves as a key member of the administrative team and reports directly to the Head of the School. The Woods Academy is a coed, independent, Catholic school of 320 students in Bethesda, MD. The Woods Academy is an inclusive Catholic community preparing boys and girls to lead lives of significance. The responsibilities of the job are listed below.
Key Responsibilities:
. Responsible for advancing the mission of The Woods Academy.
. Responsible for all development and fundraising operations of the school.
. Fundraising- Directs all annual fund appeals, capital campaign projects, and endowment fundraising efforts, including the creation and orchestration of the various funding appeals as well as all related follow-up and all acknowledgments.
. Events- Oversees special events like the Annual Auction, Leadership Circle Event, Legacy Council gatherings, Grandparent’s Day, Food Truck Fridays, Scholastic Book Fair, and other community-building events.
. Volunteer Oversight- Works closely with the Woods Academy Parent Teacher Organization (WAPTO) as the liaison between the school and WAPTO. Additionally, manages a cadre of volunteers that support events and operations at the school.
. Produces the annual report and various communications (with support from Marketing Director) to educate and inform as well as to promote greater visibility with our community.
. Works closely with the Board of Trustees and sits on the Advancement Committee of the Board.
. Serves as a key member of the Advancement Team (Development/ Marketing Communications/Admissions)
. Manages the development database, recording gifts, and budget reconciliation, ensuring accuracy, organization, and timeliness of data.
. Engages with alumni and parents of alumni and develops events (programs) that increase their connection back to The Woods.
. Communicates regularly with the community through the acknowledgment of gifts, the school website, emails, hand notes, etc.
. Reports to the Head of School, serving as a member of the administrative team and working closely with the Head to cultivate relationships within the immediate and greater community.
. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
