JOB SUMMARY Eastside Catholic is seeking a choral music teacher for grades six through 12 for the 2023-24 school year. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to our academic goals of developing critical-thinking skills, a strong desire to be a member of a Catholic educational community, excellent communication skills and strong collaborative and classroom management skills.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop students’ interest and aptitude for expressing themselves creatively in music • Utilize skills and techniques of artistic expression aligned with the student’s abilities • Help students develop aesthetic understanding and appreciation • Discover and develop the talent of students in the field of music • Assist with the Spring musical planning, rehearsals and performances
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • A commitment to working with middle and high school students in a progressive, faith-based school rooted in the Catholic tradition that will inspire current students to remain engaged in the program and inspire future participation • Significant experience working with middle and high school students • A passion for choral education and the skills required to guide students in developing conceptual understanding of choral music • Experience with differentiated instruction in mixed-ability classrooms • An intrigue for continued learning within the music field, as well as learning in other fields • Facility with technology • Effective skills in creating positive relationships with students and their families • An active respect for diversity and a commitment to helping to bring about a more just world • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills • Experience in aligning classroom instruction with state and national standards, and standards-based assessment • Keyboard skills and vocalist skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • An undergraduate degree in education or vocal performance; advanced degree preferred • Recent experience in teaching music at the middle and high school levels • Experience teaching and coordinating liturgical music • A teaching certificate is preferred • Accompaniment experience
