School Mission Statement

Notre Dame School of Manhattan offers a Catholic education for young women in the tradition of Anne de Xainctonge. Inspired by this 16th century pioneer in women’s education, Notre Dame promotes academic excellence for girls, an awareness of God in their lives, and engagement in the world around them. At Notre Dame in the 21st century, the school’s small, nurturing environment encourages each student to be open to personal and intellectual growth. School Setting

Notre Dame School of Manhattan is a small, independent Catholic school for young women, located in the vibrant West Village of Manhattan.  The school boasts motivated, engaged students from exceptionally diverse backgrounds.  Faculty and staff create and maintain a warm, supportive environment for their students and for one another.  The school is affectionately referred to as Chez Nous and aims to create a second home for students and staff.  

Notre Dame fosters an environment where young women will become spiritually and emotionally mature, using Ignatian discernment as a tool for decision-making and participating in prayer experiences, liturgies, service projects, and Ignatian retreats.  With this formation, the students will grow to become women for and with others.  

Molecular Biology Teacher 

Notre Dame School is searching for a reliable and passionate molecular biology teacher to join our faculty. The biology teacher’s responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, tests and assignments, and supervising students during investigations and experiments. You should be able to teach students from different backgrounds, with varying aptitudes and interests.

To be successful as a molecular biology teacher, you should be culturally sensitive, well-organized, and demonstrate insatiable curiosity. 

Molecular Biology Teacher Responsibilities

• Preparing and delivering engaging biology lessons to students from different backgrounds, who all have different interests and abilities.

• Monitoring student performance, and adjusting teaching strategies and techniques for improved content delivery.
• Establishing classroom and laboratory rules and ensuring all students understand and accept them.
• Setting up exams, assessments, and experiments in accordance with curriculum requirements and standards of the state and district.
• Communicating any student issues to parents, counselors, and other relevant staff members.
• Attending school events and faculty meetings as required.
• Participate in weekly meetings with the school mentor and bi-monthly department meetings.  
• Building rapport with students so that they feel comfortable and safe discussing topics in class.
• Encouraging students to participate in science enrichment programs.
• The Molecular Biology teacher also teaches a Health Course and a Technology Literacy seminar on digital citizenship and how to navigate the different learning platform applications. 

Biology Teacher Requirements:

• Degree in biology or science.

• Master’s degree preferable.
• Degree in secondary education with a focus in biology is also acceptable.
• A completed teaching apprenticeship recommended.
• Previous teaching experience would be advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Patience, resilience, and cultural sensitivity.
