Sacred Heart Academy “SHA” Bryn Mawr (PA) is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls founded in 1865 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and lay-owned and governed since 1969. The school serves approximately 200 students in kindergarten through grade 12.
Sacred Heart Academy seeks a maternity leave substitute school counselor for the Upper Schoolfor the Fall 2023 semester.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic collaborator who seeks professional growth and learning every day and inspires others to do the same through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. The candidate possesses a willingness to collaborate with dedicated educators within the Sacred Heart faculty. The candidate will show an empathy for and a passion to work with adolescent girls as well as a commitment to the development of the whole child.
Responsibilities
Providing social and emotional support for students in 1-1 and in group settings
Supporting teachers in helping students to develop classroom skills and self-advocacy
Serving as a liaison between the school community and students’ outside therapeutic supportteams in order to advocate for students’ needs
Collaborating with faculty and parents regarding student psychosocial concerns
Working closely with the Director of Academics, Learning Specialist and Instructional Coach, and Director of Upper School to developand implement academic support plans for students with documented social/emotionalaccommodation needs
Co-teaching Wellness class to grade 9, on topics related to high school transition andstudent skills
Qualifications
Master’s degree in school counseling or equivalent
Relevant experience as a high school counselor or a similar position
An appreciation for working in an all-girls, Catholic school
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience navigating teenage anxiety, social pressures, and academic high achievement
Completion of background clearances
