The Vice President for Finance reports directly to the President. The successful candidate will be committed to the school’s Lasallian Catholic mission and culture. At Justin-Siena High School the Vice President for Finance shall lead all aspects of the school’s financial operations, in particular accounting, financial planning and reporting, IT, transportation and the campus deferred maintenance plan. The Vice President for Finance will also work closely with the advisory Finance Committee to provide oversight to the short and long-range financial health of the school.
The Vice President for Finance will be a “hands-on” business leader with a proven track record of success in for-profit and/or non-profit or academic environments. They will provide financial information, key progress information, policies, and assistance that meet the management needs of the school. This position would work closely with the school’s outside audit firm as well as with the school’s Foundation Board for the management of the school’s endowment according to board-approved policy.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Oversee the leadership and coordination of all financial accounting and reporting.
Establish a plan and schedule for the preparation of the annual budget.
Take the lead on information and data analysis to support the trustee discussions and decisions on key issues related to finance.
Oversee all purchasing, financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits functions.
Supervise the work of the business office.
Prepare, and, as appropriate, offer strategic analysis of monthly financial statements for the President and Board of Trustees.
Provide monthly reports for each individual budget manager within the school.
Monitor and oversee insurance needs and issues; in consultation with the school’s insurance consultant, determine sufficiency of property and liability coverage.
Ensure that all school assets are protected and accounted for properly.
Recruit, hire, retain, and develop finance and accounting talent as required together with the Director of Human Resources.
Oversee the tuition assistance committee and manage all endowed and restricted scholarship funds.
Attend workshops and conferences to keep up to date with current accounting developments, tax laws, payroll and benefits.
Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned by the President.
Qualifications
At least 5-10 years of progressively more responsible financial leadership duties in a senior leadership position with supervisory responsibilities.
Outstanding financial expertise; strong technical knowledge and skills in a range of finance disciplines, including financial statement ratio analysis, developing accounting policies and procedures; financial modeling (balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows, and cash flow forecasts), in-depth understanding of financial operations, and proven talent for the development and execution of long-term financial viability and sustainability.
A track record of successful navigation through an environment which places a premium on financial transparency and accountability.
Expertise in creating, reviewing, and managing core organizational financial statements, such as: balance sheet, cash flows, income statements, etc.
Experience reviewing compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, especially tax and not for profit accounting principles, human resources policies, and employee pension and benefits.
Experience overseeing systems implementations or upgrades.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
Ability to embrace, support, and enhance the Lasallian Catholic mission, goals, and values of Justin-Siena.
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
Prefer experience in a non-profit setting.
CPA preferred.
Skills
Seasoned and experienced professional capable of presenting oral and written reports and communications in a well-organized manner to senior management and the Board of Trustees.
Proficiency in Accounting software programs: Blackbaud preferred
Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel and 10-key calculating machine
Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, accounting controls and best practices.
Ability and willingness to learn new software and web-based programs
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to supervise, mentor and support team members.
Excellent professional courtesy and manner with all external and internal contacts.
Willingness to grow in understanding of the Lasallian mission and heritage
Excellent attendance and punctuality.
Strong interpersonal skills to deal successfully with faculty and staff, parents, and Trustees on sometimes-complex issues.
Effective goal-orientation approach and project management ability in order to prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
