Assistant Professor - Nursing / Simulation Coordinator
Position Description
Fontbonne University’s Department of Nursing invites applications for a full-time faculty member (instructor or tenure track assistant professor) to join the department in July 2023. We are seeking an educator committed to designing an innovative classroom culture that embraces diversity and fosters student success. The nursing faculty member will create a sense of belonging that motivates students and strengthens their desire to learn. This position will be a combination of classroom instruction and teaching in the simulation lab. This is a 10-month faculty position with simulation coordination and teaching responsibilities. Courses taught will vary based on faculty expertise and departmental needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Academic
• Teaches in areas of expertise, providing instruction in the classroom, clinical setting and simulation/laboratory.
• Incorporates sound pedagogy and andragogy into teaching activities.
• Uses technology to enhance and optimize student learning outcomes.
• Utilizes best evidence for developing teaching/learning activities.
• Designs experiences/activities that complement field-based expectations for safe, effective practitioners.
Simulation Coordination
• Uses evidence-based pre-briefing, simulation scenarios, and debriefing methods to provide best-practice teaching experience.
• Develops policies and procedures for function of the nursing simulation labs, including but not limited to developing plans for troubleshooting, ordering supplies, master scheduling, set-up and tear-down, operation of simulation equipment, and continual process improvement.
• Runs pre-programmed scenarios with faculty instructors, ensuring all equipment is set up for course programs.
• Prepares files for simulation student evaluations, annual reporting, national accreditation compliance and Missouri State Board of Nursing approval as needed.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Experience as a nurse educator in an academic setting
• Previous experience in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating simulation scenarios.
• Current, active licensure to practice professional nursing in Missouri; the candidate’s license to practice professional nursing has never been disciplined in any jurisdiction.
• Effective interpersonal communication and strong leadership skills.
Preferred Requirements
• Commitment to working with diverse learners and communities, including first-generation students and students from underrepresented groups.
• Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) preferred.
Education – Required
• Master's Degree in Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Education – Preferred
• Doctoral Degree in Nursing (required for tenure track position).
• Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) preferred.
