The French Teacher will motivate our students to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing the French language; to share with our students the culture of countries where the French language is spoken and help them to discover and develop their language skills within an authentic context.

The World Languages department is dedicated to bringing cultures and languages to life in our classrooms through immersion, through technology and media, and through active use of authentic language. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understands the communicative classroom and an immersion environment
Comprehends and adheres to the ACTFL proficiency guidelines and core notions of Communication, Cultures, Comparisons, Connections, and Communities
Collaborates with members of the World Languages team to bring the language and cultures of the French world to life in the classroom, through the incorporation of authentic resources and technology.
Develops lesson plans, learning experiences, and supplementary materials compatible with the instructional philosophy and Mission of the Academy of the Holy Cross.
Embraces technology, as appropriate, to enrich our students' learning experience
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide a productive, encouraging, and stimulating classroom environment
Evaluates and provides timely feedback on student progress appropriate to the level of instruction, and makes curricular adjustments in accordance with student needs
With the Department Chair, selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies
Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
Maintains professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the Academy of the Holy Cross or in self-selected professional growth activities
Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree (preferably with specialization in French language, literature or history)
EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated fluency in French language
Strong knowledge of French grammar and mechanics
Successful teaching experience in a secondary school World Languages program
The Academy of the Holy Cross, is a private, Catholic high school (grades 9 - 12) for young women located in Kensington, MD. The college preparatory program reflects a holistic approach to education by fostering the intellectual, physical and moral development of the students. The school is sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross and has been in continuous operation in the Archdiocese since 1868.
