3rd Grade Math Teacher
St. Gabriel’s Catholic School seeks a dynamic, experienced, collaborative, and creative individual with a deep understanding of project and inquiry based learning as our 3rd Grade Math Teacher. The ideal candidate works to engage students through connected learning opportunities that develop critical thinking, reading, writing, reasoning, and research skills in a departmentalized math curriculum. The 3rd Grade Math teacher works closely with the 3rd grade math and 3rd grade science/social studies and ELA teachers as well as with the 2nd grade and 4th grade math teachers and the Dean of STEM Curriculum to ensure cross curricular and vertical alignment. This is a full-time, 10-month position that begins in August 2023.
Responsibilities
Knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages and needs of students in 3rd grade
Experienced in, or willing to develop expertise in, social emotional learning (Responsive Classroom) and project based learning
Teach in a responsive and inclusive manner
Comprehensive understanding of elementary school math curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Create a welcoming and inviting classroom environment that fosters a feeling of significance, belonging, and fun for all students
Create, revise, and update grade-and course-specific curriculum map (Curriculum Trak) to ensure all required subject matter is covered during the school year
Experience in Eureka curriculum preferred
Familiarity with the engineering and design process, project-based learning, technology integration, and guided math/math workshop
Plan and implement math lessons that emphasize and develop conceptual as well as procedural understanding.
Work and plan collaboratively with the teaching team
Create lessons and projects that promote student collaboration
Differentiate instruction for students based on ability and/or interest
Conduct conferences with parents at scheduled intervals and on an as-needed basis
Manage and monitor student learning
Perform assigned duties such as carpool, lunch, and recess duties
Demonstrate effective classroom management, utilizing learning centers for differentiated and individualized instruction for remediation and enrichment
Maintain effective and timely communication with parents regarding their children’s progress, performance, and areas of concern
Maintain thorough and accurate grades using the Blackbaud platform
Comfortable using a variety of instructional techniques and practices to meet the learning needs of all students
Experience and willingness to integrate and learn new technology platforms and applications in meaningful and appropriate ways
Provide standards-based assessments for all students which evaluate the proficiency level achieved for each learning objective/goal
Integrate the design thinking process into lessons and into your approach to teaching robotics as part of the Wonder League Robotics Competition
Work closely with the Dean of STEM Curriculum
Participate in professional development opportunities to learn and utilize innovative tools and techniques that improve student learning
Attend weekly team meetings with Head of Lower School to coordinate curricula and discuss individual student progress as well as monthly meetings with Head of Lower School and Ed Leadership Team ro ideate and plan instructional innovation
Participate in shared faculty responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School
Attend monthly faculty and department/or committee meeting
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Possess a growth mindset
Experience teaching math to lower school students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with students, department chairs, faculty, staff and parents
A collaborative and inquisitive approach to teaching and learning
A positive attitude and the willingness to approach learning new skills in flexible and creative ways
At least three years as a classroom teacher
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Math, or other related field
