Intermediate School Visual Arts Teacher

(part-time one year sub)

Faculty members participate in forming girls and young women of grace, grit, and gratitude through teaching, providing office hours, serving as club advisors, chaperoning student trips, and fulfilling other duties assigned by the Intermediate School Head and the M-12 Visual Arts Chair. Carrollton values educators who bring with them skills, talents, and interests outside of their disciplines and are willing to utilize them to better serve the Carrollton community.

The Intermediate School Visual Arts Teacher is charged with fostering an appreciation for the visual arts in grades 4-6. He or she shows an eagerness and prowess for developing students’ skills in a variety of mediums, fostering creativity, and incorporating interdisciplinary concepts that are germane to the school’s mission (i.e. sustainability). The Intermediate School Visual Arts Teacher reports to the Intermediate School Head and works in collaboration with the M-12 Visual Arts Chair, and all the teachers in the Visual Arts Discipline, to deliver an outstanding visual arts program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart network schools as articulated in the school mission
• Provide instruction on a wide range of age-appropriate Visual Arts topics for students in grades 4-6
• Maintain professional currency with industry standards in visual arts curriculum design, including proficient level pedagogical knowledge of visual arts for students in grades 4-6.
• Utilize cognitive science and educational research to inform teaching practices
• Participate in reflective, self-directed, on-going professional development
• Create and define goals and objectives for unit and daily lessons plans, prepare classroom activities, organize teaching materials, evaluate student performance, maintain classroom records, and manage time
• Submit grade reports and student comments at specified
• Hold conferences with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals.
• Collaborate with the M-12 Visual Arts team and Discipline Chair to ensure cohesive Vertical curricular alignment for students at transitional years of 3-4 and 6-7.
• Participate in faculty meetings, liturgies, chapels, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as, but not limited to, back to school night, admissions showcases, and graduation
• Additional duties may be required, such as participating in curriculum reviews, collaborating on visual arts initiatives (i.e. art exhibitions),

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field
• At least five years of teaching experience is preferred
• Intercultural competency with a deep respect for social justice, inclusion, and diversity as articulated in the Goals & Criteria.
• Commitment to on-going professional growth
• Enthusiasm for teaching students of all abilities
• Strong communication skills
• Demonstrated success with effective use of technology
