The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an independent, college-preparatory, Catholic, all-girls’ day school, seeks an experienced and engaging part-time (2-3 classes) Visual Art Teacher to begin August 15, 2023.
Reporting to the Chair of the Arts Department, the Visual Art Teacher contributes to a vibrant, robust visual arts program through the development, delivery, and management (grades, conferences, exhibits, etc.) of art classes taught to Middle and Upper School students. This teacher partners with other faculty, engages students in their artistic pursuits, builds strong partnerships with families and students, and encourages a safe, supportive, and inclusive school climate.
The Visual Art Teacher:
Creates and delivers a variety of engaging studio art lesson plans connected to our established age appropriate art curriculum
Facilitates a variety of summative and formative evaluative assessments, including peer critiques, and oral and written feedback.
Has existing knowledge of a diverse array of visual artists to incorporate into all classroom endeavors to help students better understand and connect with art.
Employs excellent verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability and willingness to connect with students and colleagues in a caring, collaborative, and positive manner both in and out of the classroom
Exhibits strength in educational technology
Collaborates with other visual art faculty to vertically align the Visual Art curriculum
Helps coordinate student art displays throughout the school and Arts building/classrooms.
Establishes a culture of positive communication with students, colleagues, and parents; responds to messages and inquiries in a timely manner
Demonstrates comfort and skill engaging diverse learners
Creates an inclusive and equitable classroom/work environment
Maintains a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom environment
Competencies include:
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or a related subject; Master’s degree preferred
Experience teaching students in grades 6-12
Demonstrated diverse background in Visual Art
Comfortable and willing to teach a variety of studio arts courses with a mix of student ages
Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
Skilled in the use of instructional technologies to enhance learning and deliver content
High degree of emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and commitment to girls’ education
