The Director of Residence Life & Community Standards at Saint Mary’s College; a Catholic residential, women’s college rooted in the liberal arts education, is a critical leadership administrator within the Division of Student Enrollment & Engagement. The Director of Residence Life & Community Standards is responsible for the strategic vision and effective execution of residential experience and housing operations, which includes, responding to campus and student crisis situations and implementing innovative approaches to meet the needs of our students. Reporting to the Dean of Students and Campus Life this 12-month position will oversee a 1400 bed residence hall system and be one of the primary conduct officers for the College.
Provides supervision, coordination and oversight to major housing operations, including opening and closing of all residential spaces, housing assignments, move in, collaboration with facilities, manage the room change process, billing, policy enforcement, and produce reports as needed
Actively create meaningful,varied and unique living communities and facilitate a sense of belonging within the residential community
Provide leadership for professional and student staff to initiate, implement, and evaluate educational and social programs which support the College’s mission and values
Create a residential environment which values student dialogue, collegiality, integrity, respect, excellence, leadership, cross functional thinking, belonging and student-centered learning
Provide supervision and oversight for four hall directors and 50 student staff members
Build, develop, train, and evaluate a strong leadership team committed to student learning, inclusivity, quality services, engaging communities, and collaborative relationships throughout the College
Manage the Residential Life budget and maintain appropriate records and financial controls
Serve as a Hearing Officer in an educationally based disciplinary process. Conduct hearings, determine sanctions, follow-up or refer as appropriate, and keep accurate records. Ensure due process and the timely and equitable treatment of all parties engaged in the student conduct system
On-call responsibilities
Responding to medical, safety, and security emergencies
Serve as a member of the Student Care Team
Exhibit a willingness to participate in committees and initiatives that serve the College’s mission
Work collaboratively with various campus stakeholders, community agencies, parents and families to provide resources and support for prospective and current students
Partner with the Director of Campus Ministry to co-supervise the Ministry Assistant staff
Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or a related field (required) from an accredited college or university
Previous training and experience with restorative practices and initiatives
An understanding of mental health issues and their ongoing impact on students
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Able to effectively manage stressful situations; work calmly and accurately to de-escalate situations and resolve issues through constructive and creative approaches to ensure safe, efficient, and effective operation of housing facilities
Have excellent management, human relations, and problem-solving skills while demonstrating an understanding of current trends in student housing and residential education
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
Ability to work nights and weekends
Commitment to working with and supporting students from diverse backgrounds
Detail-oriented, possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Director-level experience in a comprehensive housing and residence life program that includes supervision of professional staff
Familiarity with Maxient and eRezLife (or similar software)
