Founded in 1929, Fenwick High School is the only school directly operated and staffed by the Catholic Order of Dominican Friars in the United States. Fenwick's school mottoes are the same as those of the Dominican Order: Laudare, Benedicere, Praedicare (praise, bless, preach); Veritas (truth); Contemplare et Contemplata Aliis Tradere (to study and hand on the fruits of study). Inspired by its Dominican Catholic heritage, Fenwick empowers its approximately 1000 students to grow intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically in a disciplined and diverse environment. Fenwick's philosophy of education is based on four domains: the flourishing of the human person, the Catholic theological tradition, the spirituality of the Dominican Order, and the liberal arts.
The school has a highly accomplished faculty, four of which have earned the Golden Apple Award. Fenwick has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon and by U.S. News & World Report as an "Outstanding American High School", making Fenwick tied for the #1 ranked preparatory school in the Chicago area. With extraordinary achievements by its students and graduates, Fenwick has earned a reputation as one of the country’s preeminent Catholic secondary schools.
Fenwick is approaching an exciting milestone as its centennial in 2029 approaches. At this time, the school is in the midst of a major campaign which will expand and improve the campus again in keeping with the original Collegiate Gothic style. The school recently acquired 40 additional acres nearby which will be an exciting part of Fenwick’s growth and next chapter as an institution.
In the school’s collaborative leadership model, the Principal works closely with the President, Chief Operating Officer, and Vice President of Advancement. The Principal reports to Fr. Richard Peddicord, O.P., who has served as Fenwick’s President since 2012. The Principal’s key responsibilities are in the areas of academics, enrollment management, athletics and extracurriculars, and student services.
The candidates we seek will be experienced in leading academically rigorous curricula, while being comfortable with and capable of addressing the challenges facing most Catholic schools today. The next Principal must have demonstrated proficiency in building and maintaining internal and external community relationships that will ensure Fenwick’s continued success, and sustainability.
