The Learning Specialist in the Office of Academic and Student Services assists the Associate Athletic Director for Academic and Student Services in providing comprehensive academic advising and support service programming to student-athletes with increased risk to graduation outcome. They lead the processes for identifying, monitoring, skill building and learning intervention of student-athletes with learning challenges.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates and implements risk assessment screening for new student-athletes.
Leads the process to identify students whom would benefit from learning intervention.
Develop and evaluates annually policies and procedures for referral and assessment.
Develops and implements individualized academic support plans for identified student-athletes.
Oversees and manages tutorial program.
Works with Academic and Student Services staff to create and implement academic strategies that promote growth and increased opportunity for student-athlete academic success and graduation.
Confers and liaises with the Office of Disabilities Service, Professors, Student Success Coaches, Coaches, Department of Athletics personnel and relevant campus constituents to ensure a collaborative approach, ongoing review of student-athlete performance, and evaluation of effectiveness and compliance of recommended academic accommodations.
Plans and provides academic success workshops (i.e. time management, study skills, etc.). Compiles and maintains confidential academic records/reports.
Understands and adheres to all NCAA, Atlantic 10, NEC, and University policies and procedures.
Performs duties evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Team Travel as necessary.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in special education, counseling or a related field from an accredited institution 2 years of experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
2+ years’ experience as a full-time employee in an athletics academic support program.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Knowledge and experience administering and/or previous ownership of learning assessments and developing related academic plans/learning interventions.
Working knowledge of diagnostic and assessment instruments.
Demonstrated repertoire and ability to use multiple techniques and strategies to assist students develop learning, study, and testing skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationship(s) with student-athletes, administrators, coaches, and campus constituents.
