Full-Time Registered Nurse Position - St John's University Queens, NY
Job Description
To provide administrative support as well as direct clinical care at St John's University Student Health Services under the registered nurse scope of practice as governed by the New York State Education Department
Administrative Essential Duties:
Provide support to front desk staff with scheduling clinical visits, and handling cancellations and overflow.
Assist with review of physical examinations and immunization requirements for incoming students and those students in programs requiring health clearance. Follow up with students as appropriate.
Review and maintain immunization requirements as required by NYS laws and follow up as necessary to ensure compliance.
Work with other university departments on student immunization/health records compliance
Establish contact and collaborative working relationships with other members of the university and student groups as appropriate.
Perform inventory of student health services supplies and equipment.
Participate in campus-wide educational health and wellness-related events.
Perform other duties as requested to support student health services.
Direct Clinical Care
Communicate with students via telephone and in person regarding advice, and follow up instructions within the scope of practice of a registered nurse as governed by the New York State Education Department
Schedule clinical appointments as appropriate for students
Triage and report complex clinical situations to nurse practitioners and/or the part-time physician and direct students to seek emergency services, off-campus resources, and other specialty care as appropriate with the consultation of the healthcare provider on duty
Practice infection prevention, control, and safety guidelines from OSHA
Maintain knowledge of COVID-19 protocols per CDC/NYS guidelines and university protocols and guide students
Under direction, provide nursing care/education and health services including nursing assessment and first aid to students, and provide basic emergency procedures in life-threatening situations.
Work collaboratively with other members of the health care team including physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, Center for Counseling and Consultation, health/wellness counselor, and administrative staff to provide comprehensive care.
Document all pertinent data in patients' electronic medical records.
Participate in COVID-19 testing, and vaccination clinics as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Maintain currency of licensure, certification, and continuing education as required for professional certification by the New York State Education Department.
Help monitor self/peer practice to assure the overall quality of patient care.
Maintain confidentiality of information.
Demonstrate sensitivity to students of diverse backgrounds and commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Contribute to New Orientation Student of new personnel.
Carry out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Wellness, Student Health Services Director.
Required Qualification Summary
Current New York State RN license.
Computer skills, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint; prior experience with electronic medical records, Medicat.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster when eligible per St John's University Policy.
Preferred Qualification Summary
Two years of ambulatory, school health, occupational health, public health nursing
Prior experience in college health or student health setting
Prior experience working in adolescent/young adult health
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $90,000 - $103,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
