The Director of International Programs provides student advising for international student exchange programs, study abroad opportunities, international students, and support and recommendations for all students and faculty traveling abroad. The Director of International Programs provides overall leadership to, and professional support for all Stonehill College international efforts including oversight of both the international student and scholar services, and education abroad functions. The International Office is the lead campus organization for oversight, management, and development of a broad range of international activities, including exchange programs, study abroad, and support for international students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide overall advising for international students, and students seeking study abroad opportunities.
- Create a vision and lead the continued development of Stonehill College’s international presence in a coordinated and strategic manner.
- Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for SEVIS and Responsible Office (RO) for the student visa holders’ population.
- Partner with the Navigation Center for Student Success, Office of Intercultural Affairs, Office of Campus Ministry, H.O.P.E. Service Immersion Program, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), Integrating Democratic Education at Stonehill (IDEAS), Community Based Learning (CBL), and other campus offices on international programming.
- Work closely with the Enrollment Management to link international enrollment efforts with the institutional strategic priorities.
- Oversee immigration compliance with regulations for the F-1 visa program and J -1 visa program.
- Advise F and J international students on immigration matters.
- Serve as campus liaison with the department of homeland security, the department of state, the department of labor, and other federal authorities and organizations.
- Serve as liaison to campus stakeholders for the intersection of immigration regulation and academic success.
- Engage and assist in designing and implementing a comprehensive recruitment and retention plan for international students within undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Serve as an advocate to support the College and division’s strategic diversity initiatives to create a welcoming campus for all students by incorporating multicultural perspectives and frameworks into the Center program.
- Partner with campus stakeholders to improve services and updated policies to enhance the experience for international students and faculty.
- Oversee global engagement activities, including exchange program management, and collaborate with faculty advisors for study abroad programming.
- Provide support and guidance to assist faculty with the development of study abroad programs linked to academic programs.
- Manage publicity and student outreach programming regarding the study abroad process, advise students on the appropriate study abroad program, visa requirements, and government regulations for each program, monitor security and safety protocols as issued by the State Department, and manage all pre-departure and re-entry programming.
- Supervise staff in the Office of International Programs.
- Design, promote, and work with an Academic Affairs team to implement programmatic activities that support international experiences for Stonehill students and showcase the important role that internationalization plays in the university’s education, research, and mission.
- Work with academic departments on issues of curricular integration, transfer credit, and the development of new international initiatives.
- Prepare, monitor, and execute the annual budget.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, (a Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of five years of professional experience in study abroad and international education with increasing responsibilities for planning, supervision, risk management, and budgeting.
- Significant awareness and knowledge of international issues and experiences that may include multicultural understanding, international living and/or travel, facility with foreign languages, etc.
- Significant and progressive experience and knowledge of best practices in service learning, exchange programs, visa issuance, etc.
- Possess knowledge and experience of legal issues related to immigration rules and regulations pertaining to F-1 visa/SEVIS.
- Ability to assume Primary Designated School Official (PSDO) status for the F-1 student program. Pursuant to Code of Federal Regulations per department of Homeland Security. Requires U.S. Citizenship, or U.S. permanent residence status, per Department of Homeland Security regulations.
- Experience in program/event marketing and hosting student events.
- Demonstrated experience conducting student workshops and public speaking.
- Demonstrated experience working within and on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice initiatives.
