Summary of the Position: Under the supervision of the Superintendent and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Columbus Diocese, the Associate Director for Advancement leads the development, marketing, communications, and fundraising efforts of the Office of Catholic Schools. He/she will focus on providing direct support, consultation, and guidance to Catholic schools. The position is expected to use personal judgment in carrying out routine duties and responsibilities of the Office.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Promote the vision, mission, and core values of the Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) and the Diocese of Columbus.
- Develop communication, marketing, development, fundraising, and/or enrollment plans for schools designated by the Superintendent. Instruct schools on how to implement these plans and guide schools through the implementation process. Use and maintain the necessary database tools for relationship and gift management.
- Closely supervise development activities and personnel at designated diocesan schools. Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight in preparing annual fundraising goals and objectives for the selected schools by designing and directing the fundraising programs, including annual giving, special gifts, capital campaigns, special events and planned giving.
- Provide consultation to individual schools and presentations to groups of administrators on advancement topics and opportunities. Ensure engaging value propositions at all schools.
- Develop and maintain the brand identity and value proposition of OCS. Work to promote OCS schools to a broader audience through a variety of initiatives. Manage OCS social media accounts. Write, produce, and publish information and materials needed to convey the mission and vision of Catholic schools.
- Serve as the public relations liaison for all schools and OCS in collaboration with the Diocesan communications team.
- Create a collaborative network of development directors and enrollment management directors at Diocesan schools. Develop reoccurring newsletter for these audiences.
- Cultivate potential major donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations for the Office of Catholic Schools. Manage donations to the Diocesan Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO).
- Work with a network of identified schools on a Latino enrollment initiative, helping to develop an overall and individual building plan for increased enrollment and cultural diversity.
- Maintain membership and participation in appropriate national, regional, and organizations as required. May include travel to relevant conferences and reporting back on what is learned from these events.
- Represent the Superintendent or OCS at meetings, on committees, or at events as needed.
- Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned by superintendent.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this job. Attendance at evening meetings and events will be required periodically.
Education: Bachelor’s degree is required, Masters preferred. Additionally, professional development is mandatory to remain current in best practices.
Experience: 3 to 5 years related philanthropic experience is required. Experience with schools,
Catholic Schools, or educational non-profit preferred.
Job Related Skills: Ability to communicate effectively both in written format and oral presentation; ability to maintain organization, multi-task and establish priorities; exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility; ability to research issues using expert materials available on the Internet; requires excellent analytical skills and concern for details and must be proficient in MS Office software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Interpersonal Skills: Work with others in a collaborative team environment to achieve group
goals; demonstrate human relationship skills when dealing with co-workers, those we serve,
vendors and the general public.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, legal documents or government regulations; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies or members of the business and general community at large.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic accounting functions using automated system; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to manipulate, interpret, and analyze numbers.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to communicate sensitive information; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Work Environment: The employee will have a private office with travel to school sites as required. Normal workweek is Monday through Friday. Attendance at evening meetings and events will be required periodically. The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.
Job offer is contingent on the successful passing of the mandatory background screening and completion of the VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children” course. Compensation is commensurate with candidate’s experience.
