The Mathematics Department believes that inspiring appreciation for the richness and power of mathematics helps students to enthusiastically undertake the process of comprehension, analysis and critical thinking necessary for the successful application of concepts to real-world problems.  The development of analysis, logic and reasoning skills prepares students to create models, interpret data, and be critical of information in any academic, personal or professional situation. 

Teaching Responsibilities:

• 5 sections of Mathematics including but not limited to Algebra I, Geometry and other mathematics courses
• With lesson planning that is thoughtful and intentional, design a classroom experience that is engaging, challenging, encourages student voice, and promotes active learning
• Communicate effectively, positively, and consistently with students and families to provide feedback on student progress throughout the year
• Create, develop, amend, and assess curricula, contents, assessments, and teaching methods as necessary to foster a student-centered learning environment
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work collegially and collaboratively, and a willingness to go the proverbial extra mile for students
• Knowledge of differentiated instructional strategies, with a focus on emphasizing student strengths and developing essential skills

Additional responsibilities include:

• Advising a club or activity
• Attending and contributing to meetings during and after the school day, including, but not limited to, department, committee, and grade-level meetings
• Participating in the life of the Fenwick by attending community events, being present for major school functions, and supporting the overall mission and culture of the School

The successful candidate will possess excellent content knowledge; a passion for teaching and learning; enthusiasm for working with students, families and colleagues; a positive attitude; and a growth mindset. She or he will be able to inspire and empower students to learn; collaborate and engage in daily discourse about mathematics with students and colleagues; write well; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. A degree in Mathematics and/or extensive experience within the field are preferred.
