Graduate Assistant for Campus Ministry

Under the supervision of the Directors of Campus Ministry and working with other relevant constituencies throughout the University, the Graduate Assistant for Campus Ministry will apply classroom learning to a Campus Ministry setting and fulfill the Learning Outcomes and Assessment by:

assisting with general operations of the Office of Campus Ministry and various programs, as agreed upon with the Directors, and in service to the mission of HNU;

increasing Campus ministry presence, availability, and support to the campus community;

sustaining residence hall outreach and faith sharing communities;

offering a broad variety of gifts and perspectives to Campus Ministry programs; and

helping to lead Campus Ministry efforts to build a vibrant community of faith through worship, hospitality, and service among members of our diverse student body, faculty, and staff, particularly in the areas of liturgy, small group fellowship, interfaith spirituality, service, retreats, and leadership development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
A. Assistance with Operations of Campus Ministry Department

Provide administrative and pastoral support to Director as directed, necessary and appropriate;

Provide technological support via social media and live streaming;

Coordinate material development, reproduction and dissemination;

Facilitate creation of prayer aids, slides and resources;

Assist Director with student worker development and management;

Respond to other duties as needed.

B. Coordination of Inclusive (e.g., ecumenical, interfaith) Faith-Based Community Gatherings and Related Service/Justice Opportunities. The GA will

Co-organize regular opportunities for inclusive worship, prayer, service, and praise to engage the broader HNU community in moments of quiet and reflection throughout the school year;

Collaborate as CM team member in other liturgical and sacramental offerings, such as Sunday Masses, special liturgies, and prayer services;

Coordinate service retreats in partnership with off-campus community agencies in an effort to offer moments of justice engagement and prayerful reflection to the HNU community;

Facilitate residence halls small group offerings in collaboration with CM pastoral team;

Create and implement at least one large-scale, campus-wide event per semester.

C. Coordination of Outreach and Promotion:

Organize various outreach and informational projects to spread the vision and mission of Campus Ministry through innovative programs across campus such as Public Market Altar Outreach, Red Tent Events, Table Talks, Holy Happy Hour and other programs as developed throughout the year.

Maintain and update environment, in collaboration with Directors and Student workers, of the liturgical spaces throughout the year to promote various types of seasons such as natural (e.g., fall, winter, …), academic (e.g., athletic calendars, immersions, etc.), liturgical (e.g., Advent, Lent, Easter), and other sacred and spiritual observances (Rosh Hashanah, Earth Day).

Collaborate with Director to create and maintain student leadership engagement, Faith in Action Together, and social events.

D. Maintain a presence at signature Campus Ministry programs throughout the year, including:

Convocation;

Thanksgiving Dinner;

Alpha Delta Leadership Awards;

Commencement; and

Additional events (e.g., Fall/Spring Retreat, Monday Mindfulness, Evening Prayer Services, Service Activities, Hawk Days, Liturgical Celebrations etc.), as agreed upon with the Director

E. Other duties include:

Willingness and ability to drive a 12-passenger van for off-campus activities;

Misc. administrative projects such as calendar maintenance, database management, social media integration and digital presentations;

Student Worker supervision, as needed;

Helping to create and maintain the signature characteristic of hospitality in all Campus Ministry spaces and programs;

Helping to create and maintain resources that promote Campus Ministry programs in an inviting and engaging way;

Respond to needs of the department, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Initiation of, or acceptance into the Holy Names University Graduate Assistant Program and to an accompanying HNU Graduate Program.

Submission of a current resume with a reference list of three references is required.

Experience working with students in an educational setting, in particular engagement with small groups is very desirable.

Understanding and ability to articulate the importance of co-curricular experiences in a college setting.

Articulate an authentic dedication to supporting all students.

Strong skills in technology use and management, in particular social media, zoom and live streaming.

Ability to express their own understanding and experience of faith journey and why it is valuable to have a Campus Ministry Department at Holy Names University.

Ability to assist the Directors in implementing pastoral practices related to serving the diverse HNU community through Campus Ministry offerings.

Ability to assist the Directors in program development and evaluation.

Ability to assist the Directors in program marketing and promotion.

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

Good listening skills, pastoral presence, willingness to help and support others.

Ability to have an open mind with a receptive style that welcomes students who are exploring their faith and who desire to grow spiritually.

Ability to gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Ability to interpret and apply university-related policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Must have a valid Driver's License.
