Sixth-Grade Homeroom Teacher
Saint David’s School seeks a sixth-grade homeroom teacher for September 1, 2022. Saint David’s is an independent elementary school for boys, located in Manhattan. Founded in the Catholic tradition, the school welcomes everyone.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee a homeroom of approximately 15 boys, serving as the point person for parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Teach American History, English, and Religion.
- Participate fully in grade-level, departmental, and faculty meetings.
- Collaborate with colleagues, outside institutions, and administrators to develop and/or enhance signature units that showcase students’ thinking and presentation skills.
- Attend chapel and give chapel talks; attend lunch and special student activities such as class plays, concerts, and athletics events.
- Maintain effective professional communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators through a variety of means, including meetings, conferences, contact notes, and formal academic reports.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
Qualifications and Preferences:
- Dynamic yet organized teacher who understands boys and prefers teaching middle school students
- BA in History/American History, English or Education; MA or Ed.M in History, English, or Education
- Exceptional communication skills, including polished writing skills
- Commitment to boys’ education and character education
- Flexibility, collegiality, humor
