This position entails teaching a full complement of the middle school math curriculum in Grades 5-8 in small class sizes of 12-18 students. The current math teacher is implementing a Pre-K to Grade 8 math curriculum and fidelity to the program is essential. Teaching is in a single-gender environment.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
- Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress.
- Collaborate in the development of a vertically aligned Math curriculum across Learning Communities.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with families.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
The ideal candidate would have a passion for teaching deep thinking and problem-solving skills, a strong knowledge of best practices of mathematics instruction and working with adolescents. The Middle School Math Teacher position requires an educator who can tailor instruction to individuals’ needs, evaluate student progress and provide feedback in a timely manner, promote individual growth and independent thought, and create a positive learning environment. Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s or higher in mathematics, with a current teaching certificate
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the middle school level
- A desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies, student growth and best pedagogical practices.
- Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs
