PRINCIPAL - SERVIAM GIRLS ACADEMY - DIOCESE OF WILMINGTON
Serviam Girls Academy (SGA) of Wilmington, Delaware is a Catholic, tuition-free middle school that educates girls in grades 5-8 from under-resourced communities. Serviam’s mission is to cultivate the potential of young women through a challenging, holistic education rooted in the Ursuline tradition. Serviam offers an extended day and year model, partnerships with families and community members, and support for students beyond graduation.
The Principal is the educational leader of the school, directly responsible to the President for managing all school operations. S/he manages daily school activities, coordinates curricula, and oversees teachers and other school staff to provide a safe and productive learning environment for students. This position demands strong communication and managerial skills in order to maintain a close working relationship with the President, the faculty, staff, and students, as well as parents and the community at large.
Primary Responsibilities:
Work closely and in partnership with the President to:
- Promote the mission both in the school and broader community
- Establish a strong professional, growth-minded faculty culture
- Set high academic and behavioral standards among faculty and students
- Oversee curriculum development and implementation
- Provide instructional leadership across all academic and enrichment programs
- Implement school safety policies and procedures, especially with regard to student health, emergencies, and facilities
- Manage faculty and office staff, including hiring, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation
- Manage student and family relations
- Oversee the academic and programmatic budget, facilities, and wrap around services; ensure proper budget controls for instructional materials
- Oversee creation of the school-wide master schedule and communicate the calendar, and any changes to it, throughout the school year
- Prepare necessary reports and documentation as requested by the President for presentation to the board
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in School Administration from an accredited College or University.
- 3-5+ years experience educational administration or school leadership position
- Experience teaching in a middle school setting
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation at a middle school level
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative leadership skills
- Knowledge of Middle States Accreditation process
- Experience developing and working with a budget
- Strong work ethic with an ability to multitask, prioritize, foster an empowering learning and motivated work environment among students and staff
- Proven sensitivity and ability to relate to persons from different ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds
