About Prince of Peace Catholic School
Established in February 1991, Prince of Peace Catholic School is now one of the largest Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Dallas. Originally called the West Plano Catholic Community, Prince of Peace Catholic Community celebrated it first Mass in a now-defunct Lowe’s movie theater at Preston Park Shopping Center in Plano, TX. The smell of popcorn was still in the air. Six months later, Prince of Peace Catholic School opened its doors with 39 students. Founding members of the parish recall camping out in tents just to ensure a spot in line for the School’s first year of registration. Today, the parish serves 2,500 families with its 9,000 members, and the School maintains an enrollment of close to 800 students.
Prince of Peace Catholic School, or POP as it is fondly called, has seen impressive development over its 30 years as seen by its 2006 and 2016 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Awards. The School provides robust student-life experiences and an engaging academic program with rigorous content and project-based learning opportunities. Its technology-rich environment incorporates a campus-wide STEM initiative, and 21st Century skills are promoted and ...supported with a recently built, collaborative space nicknamed The Cube. The “Tinker Tank” makerspace is a separate area filled with craft supplies, makerspace tools, and a variety of materials for student projects.
Central to the mission of POP is the spiritual growth of its students. Catholic ideals are an integral part of all instruction, whether through the classroom or through opportunities to grow in faith and servant leadership. The School firmly believes that formation of students in the Catholic faith would not be complete without teaching them to live that faith in their everyday lives.
