Xavier High School seeks a Campus Minister for Ignatian Service beginning July 1, 2022. This position reports directly to the Director of Campus Ministry and serves as a member of the Campus Ministry Team.
The primary focus of the Campus Minister for Ignatian Service is to develop and oversee the ‘programs through which students experience what it means to labor with and for others in building a more just world’(Standard 14: Our Way of Proceeding). These programs, designed by class year, are the primary means by which Xavier students engage ‘in an articulated sequence of service and reflection opportunities that lead them to experience a sense of solidarity with the poor and the marginalized.’ (14.1 Our Way of Proceeding). The work of the Campus Minister for Ignatian Service is to continually seek other opportunities to help students engage in service and reflection. The Universal Apostolic Preferences should be considered a framework for this work.
As a member of the Campus Ministry team, the CM for Ignatian Service works in conjunction with his/her colleagues to ensure that the overall experience of each student’s faith life includes service towards a more cohesive and holistic understanding of his faith formation.
The Campus Minister for Ignatian Service is an academic year position that includes additional stipended summer hours to ensure safe/timely departures and arrivals of service and immersion trips. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
- Building and maintaining relationships with local, national, and international organizations that provide opportunities for Xavier students to serve.
- Organizing service and immersion experiences for students scaffolded to meet the evolving needs of students and utilizing the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm.
- Recruiting and training adult chaperones and facilitators of service and immersion trips.
- Facilitating the Senior Service program, including the oversight of registration, service hours, and senior reflection groups, including site visits.
- Creating engaging opportunities for students through events both on and off campus that support and bring attention to issues of service and justice;
- Collaborating with faculty and department chairs to connect service experience with curricular experience.
- Collaborating with Director of Activities and Director of Athletics to consider cross-over opportunities for students.
- Collaborating with members of Campus Ministry on sacramental and retreat experiences.
- Maintaining a pastoral presence on campus and at school events.
- Assisting the Director of Campus Ministry in leading students in social justice initiatives that include advocacy for those on the margins, in particular programs offered by the Ignatian Solidarity Network.
- Teaching two sections in the religion department.
A strong candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree in theology, Catholic studies, pastoral ministry, or religious studies (Masters preferred).
- A deep understanding of Catholic social teaching and Ignatian principles.
- Experience organizing and leading service/immersion programs for high school students and working with a campus ministry team is a plus.
