De La Salle Institute, one of the oldest and most respected high schools in Chicago, is searching for its next President. Rooted in the tradition begun by St. John Baptist de La Salle, its mission has been, and is, to foster a desire for excellence in education. Since the cornerstone placement at 35th and Wabash, the school has grown from a two-year commercial enterprise for young men to a four-year co-ed college preparatory school. Founded in 1889, the school has remained diverse and nondiscriminatory with the student population a wonderful reflection of the City of Chicago itself.
The President is responsible for the academic, spiritual and financial health of De La Salle Institute and serves as the public spokesperson. The President is entrusted to preserve the history, traditions, culture and Lasallian charism while leading the school to grow and advance. The President maintains the integrity of the mission of the school and manifests an inspiring vision and message. He/she will report directly to the De La Salle Board of Directors and the Midwest Province of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
Qualifications for the President:
Practicing Catholic, strong in faith
Master’s degree or higher
Minimum of three years professional experience in a Catholic school or equivalent
Visionary leader able to build on success, innovate and inspire
Ability to market the school’s strengths for enrollment, investment and partnership
Business, fundraising and facility proficiency
Relationship/community builder and problem solver able to manage diverse audiences and opinions; an effective and engaging communicator who motivates all stockholders
Ideal candidates will also possess…
Classroom experience (a plus)
Strategic planning creation and implementation
Previous relationship with the Lasallian community
