We have been retained by the Board of Directors of Erie Catholic Preparatory School (ECPS) to lead the search for the next president of the school. ECPS represents the merging of two venerable Erie single-sex schools, Villa Maria Academy for girls, founded in 1892, and Cathedral Prep for boys, founded in 1921. The result is the creation of a premier coeducational Catholic high school. The legal merger took place in 2010 but the schools have operated as separate institutions on two separate campuses. Beginning in the fall of 2022, the two schools will be officially consolidated on a single campus -- formerly the site of Cathedral Prep in downtown Erie -- where the girls and boys will now share academic and athletic facilities, including a spectacular new, $12.5 million, 25,000 square foot, state of the art building dedicated to science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). This complex will provide ECPS’ young women and men with access to one of the most advanced high school learning facilities in the United States.
The Erie Catholic Preparatory School campus also includes Mother Theresa Academy, a K-8 Catholic mission school established by ECPS in 2017 and designed to provide children in Erie’s underserved urban neighborhoods with access to high quality academics and ultimately to preparation for college and university study. Further enhancing this powerful Catholic learning community is adjacent Gannon University where qualified ECPS students in their junior and senior years are permitted to enroll in courses for college credit. All of these institutions are within walking distance of each other and represent a powerful and visually integrated Catholic learning community for students of all ages.
The school operates in the President/Principal Model. An Interim President is in place, along with a strong and collaborative leadership team that is eager to welcome and support new leadership.
To qualify for this exceptional opportunity, you will need to be a practicing Catholic and accomplished servant leader with passion for the vital mission of Catholic schools. The board and diocese welcome candidates from other Catholic or independent schools and dioceses as well as accomplished executives from other mission-critical career venues such as higher education; non-profit foundations, associations, charities and the like; or the corporate, civic, and professional services arenas. While knowledge of education and school operations is preferred, other qualities and experiences are also valued, especially visionary, entrepreneurial leadership and the ability to inspire, lead a high performing team, and create demand for the extraordinary gifts of a Catholic education. The position profile is under development and will be posted soon.
This is a very rare and outstanding opportunity for a dynamic leader with passion for mission to fulfill the promise of this exciting merger by creating one of the finest coeducational Catholic high schools in the country.
