Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic girls’ school outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks a faith-filled leader to serve as the Director of Campus Ministry beginning July 2021. The Campus Minister embodies the School’s mission and Catholic identity with attention given to the spirituality and charism of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy.
The Campus Minister provides pastoral care, nurtures the spiritual growth of the community, and helps others deepen their relationship with Christ. The Campus Minister directs the ministry program and works with students and faculty to plan liturgies, prayer experiences, and retreats.
The Campus Minister helps create an atmosphere of Mercy hospitality where all feel welcome, based on Catholic faith traditions and rituals and celebrates the diversity of the various faith traditions existent within the community. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to nurturing students in social consciousness based on an integrative understanding of Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching and empowering students to serve and to work for justice.
Assumes responsibility for all components of community prayer/worship including but not limited to all Masses, prayer services, and celebrations.
Serves as liaison with the wider church through the local school chaplains, local pastors, and/or Archdiocesan Youth Ministers and/or Archdiocesan offices.
Oversees School’s response to carrying out the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy.
Is accountable for the execution of the Campus Ministry student leadership organization.
Coordinates and implements opportunities for communal prayer: morning prayers on the school-wide broadcast, faculty/staff meetings, and in-services, etc.
Offers pastoral counseling, spiritual companioning, and community-building activities for the Merion Mercy community.
Attends and supports all school events, faculty/staff meetings, designated in-services, and weekend and evening events as requested.
Collaborates with the Theology Department for outreach to faith communities in the greater Philadelphia area to build ecumenical and interfaith relationships
Administrative and Instructional
Collaborates with the administration and coordinates the Campus Ministry department in the planning and implementation of faculty/staff retreats.
Is accountable for all aspects of the Campus Ministry budget, including Service Learning and Retreat, and assumes fiscal responsibility for the same.
Acts as a resource for the school on all church matters.
Teaches one or more classes in the Theology Department as needed.

Master’s Degree preferred with at least 5 years experience in youth ministry, pastoral ministry, theology, or religious studies.
Practicing Catholic with an active sacramental life and knowledge of current Catholic liturgical theology and practice.
Experience working with youth in a high school, college, or parish setting (experience in secondary education preferred).
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Warmth, a good sense of humor and an appreciation and respect for teenage girls.
