Mount Merici Academy, a Catholic elementary school sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters and located in Waterville, Maine, seeks a faith-filled, compassionate, and collaborative Head of School to join us in our mission of providing a faith-based, outstanding education to those who seek it.
The Head of School is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school, working closely with the faculty and staff in implementing academic, faith-formation, and co-curricular programming, along with strong communications and outreach to school families and the local community. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic who is mission-focused and a strong advocate for exceptional academic standards.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures the development and implementation of an overall learning environment, which promotes Catholic faith formation/education, ethical decision-making, social justice, and Christian leadership.
Ensures that the core values and essential characteristics of an Ursuline school are developed and nurtured.
Ensures the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive curriculum program, which complies with Ursuline core values and state standards of curriculum requirements.
Ensures that high learning standards are developed and maintained for students.
Ensures the supervision of certified faculty and support staff.
Ensures the development and maintenance of effective communication systems between parents, teachers, and school administrators.
Participates in the development of and manages within the overall budget for the school.
Ensures the development of policy and procedures for all student-related concerns.
Ensures the preparation and submission of all necessary reports to the state and Ursulines of the Central Province.
Collaborates with the Board of Trustees in administering the school and informs the Board of Trustees on important matters.
Collaborates with the school committees in administering the school.
Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required to function as a Head of School. This is accomplished through reading, attendance at in-service training opportunities, participation in workshops, and through membership in local, state, or national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Fundamental Requirements:All candidates must have a master’s degree in education or be working towards a master’s degree in education. All candidates must be practicing Catholics and hold a current State of Maine Principal Credential (or similar credential).
Experience:Candidates should have experience in Catholic education and in areas such as leadership and communication, and should be able to successfully assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation and administration of the school.
Other:Applicants should be prepared to work closely with the Board of Trustees and school committees, as well as work collaboratively with teaching and administrative staff.
