Lower School - Upper Elementary Teacher

Stone Ridge is seeking an Upper Level Elementary Teacher for our Lower School to begin work on August 19, 2021. 

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 700 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. 

An Upper Level Elementary Teacher is responsible for teaching all academic courses in her/his grade level in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education. Working closely with colleagues who teach the same grade level and across the Lower School, s/he creates and updates plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum. S/he actively collaborates with Learning Strategists and Educational Technologists to develop strategies to support all students. Likewise, s/he works with the Counseling staff in developing social-emotional programming rooted in Responsive Classroom. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings and participates in Professional Learning Communities within the Stone Ridge community. S/he maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.

The ideal candidate possesses teaching experience at the elementary level and demonstrates expertise in pedagogy and instruction; s/he is familiar with/has experience teaching in the model of Understanding by Design as the School’s chosen model for learning and possesses a Bachelor’s in a relevant field. Either a master’s degree or teaching certification are preferred. S/he demonstrates genuine affection for children, a record of successful teaching, a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities, and experience with integrating appropriate educational technologies into the teaching environment.
