Position: Nurse Practioner/Physician Assistant Classification Title: PT Casual City/Campus: Detroit - McNichols Department: Wellness Center Position Status: Part-Time - Casual Position Summary: The primary purpose of the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is to deliver comprehensive individualized health care that includes diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, patient education, and health promotion/disease prevention. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant works primarily to assess and diagnose problem; interpret medical and clinical information; determine the need for other diagnostic tests; and develop a plan of care based on patient history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests when indicated. He/she will prescribe and/or modify treatment plans and/or medication. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (1) Elicit health histories and perform physical assessments to evaluate student’s health. Education (Minimum/Preferred): Master’s of Science in Nursing or Master’s of Science Physician Assistant. Experience (Minimum/Preferred): Two years to five years of similar or related experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Ability to function independently and have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements: Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds). Work Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office. Licenses/Certifications: Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing/Physician Assistant or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires the newly hired non-physician providers to apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. Certified as advanced practice nurse by the American Nurse Credentialing Commission; Licensed by the State of Michigan as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
