The Application Specialist II is responsible for implementation, support, and maintenance of the teaching and learning technologies, software, and processes at Duquesne University. The Application Specialist II functions as the systems administrator for supported software applications used in face-to-face, remote, and online courses. The role will focus on implementation, troubleshooting and support of a variety of educational technologies including the Learning Management System (LMS), the student success and retention software, the web-conferencing software, and the enterprise survey and evaluation software. The Application Specialist II is also responsible for researching, testing, and documenting policies and procedures for supported educational technologies. This position will work closely and collaborate with the entire Educational Technology department, including the Applications and Instructional Design Teams. The Application Specialist II will also collaborate with software vendors, faculty, students, and other teams and departments throughout the University. This position reports to the Director of Educational Technology within the division of Academic Affairs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports, upgrades, and maintains the University’s Learning Management System (LMS), the student success and retention software, the web-conferencing software, the enterprise survey and evaluation software, and a variety of other teaching and learning tools.
Troubleshoots technical issues with the above Educational Technology supported software. This includes working with faculty, academic programs, central IT, and vendors to resolve any issues within the applications.
Performs non-project based day-to-day operational tasks (e.g., support tickets, application configurations, user requests, etc.).
Communicates and collaborates with various University teams as well as our software vendors to implement and support integrations between Ed Tech supported tools and other University technologies.
Creates and maintains technical and support documentation of Educational Technology software, processes, and procedures.
Communicates with Educational Technology staff, faculty, students, vendors, and other University teams in a timely and professional manner.
Manages and maintains multiple timelines and deliverables. Adapt to changing priorities as needed.
Conducts research on emerging technologies for use in the teaching and learning process and provide instruction and support to faculty and staff to assist them in the development and improvement of educational technologies.
Bachelors required – Masters preferred from an accredited institution in information science or other related field.
1 to 3 years of software and customer support.
Occasional travel for conferences or other professional development
Experience with Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, Canvas, etc.) preferred.
Starfish or similar retention software experience preferred
Familiarity with ticketing system – preferred
