The Director of Religious Education leads efforts on behalf of K-12 schools and parishes of the Archdiocese of St. Louis to develop and strengthen curriculum, programs, policies and procedures associated with Catholic identity, educational excellence, and faith formation along the K-12 spectrum.
Major responsibilities include:
Developing, maintaining, and assessing the religious studies curriculums for elementary schools, high schools, and parish schools of religion.
Establishing relationships and consistent communication channels with parishes, schools and Office of Catholic Education and Formation (OCEF) personnel.
Managing the religious education certification program.
Coordinating the development of religious education guidelines and handbooks.
Creating and coordinating in-service opportunities, prayer days, retreats and leadership programs for potential and current religious educators and OCEF staff members.
Remaining abreast of important Church documents, resources and trends in religious education.
Providing religious education consultation services to Pastors, Presidents, Principals, Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education, and Campus Ministers as requested.
Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic with a solid understanding of, and commitment to, the philosophy of Catholic education.
Demonstrated experience with religious education curriculum development.
Teaching experience.
Excellent coaching skills and collaborative working style.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Willingness to travel regularly to parish and school sites throughout the Archdiocese.
Graduate degree in theology, religious education, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or similar degree with a strong theological core.
