Lower and Middle School Chinese Teacher

Sacred Heart Greenwich is an independent, Catholic day school for girls from kindergarten through grade 12 with a coed preschool and prekindergarten. We are currently seeking a full-time Lower & Middle School Chinese teacher to begin on March 29, 2021, and to complete the 2020-2021 school year.

Reports to: Head of Middle School
FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Description:

The Lower & Middle School Chinese teacher is responsible for providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education and the philosophy that implements it.  This philosophy includes providing children opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. The Chinese Teacher is responsible to the Heads of the Lower School & Middle School and has the following responsibilities:

Job Summary: 

• Teach 3 sections of lower school and 2 sections of middle school Chinese;
• Conduct in-person classes and be prepared to engage in distance learning if necessary;
• Organize and provide developmentally appropriate educational programs and instruction; plan and implement curriculum and differentiated instruction for lower and middle school students; 
• Conduct classes in the target language as much as possible and provide ample opportunities for students to communicate in Chinese through speaking, listening, reading and writing;
• Provide opportunities for exploration and discovery of Chinese culture;
• Lead student-centered classes and provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving, appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of  the students;
• Create a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; through student-centered instruction and authentic assessment;
• Maintain an open and cooperative relationship with students, colleagues and parents;
• Participate in faculty and departmental meetings; performing various faculty supervisory duties.
