The Director of Technology oversees all aspects of the Academy/Abbey technology infrastructure, program, and services. As a small school with a small staff, the Director is expected to have a hands-on approach to working with students, faculty, staff and monks to develop and implement technology solutions for managing and securing data, innovative learning, and communications. The position reports to the Headmaster of Subiaco Academy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains the integrity, reliability, and security of all network components including servers, switches, Wi-Fi, peripherals, and school-wide database systems including but not limited to Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge), Renweb, Google Classroom, and FACTS.
Directs the implementation and day-to-day administration of operating systems and servers (e.g. email systems, business management systems, voice and video systems, mass storage systems, network access, back-up systems, disaster recovery, inventory, security, antivirus, spyware) and ensures availability of services to all authorized users. Purchasing, technology policies, risk management, and strategic planning are also the responsibility of this position.
Negotiates and processes all technology-related vendor agreements including software licensing, copier leasing, internet, and telephone; review submitted bids for compliance with stated requirements, and make recommendations to the administration.
Fosters collaboration with classroom teachers and develops innovative, technology-enhanced lessons and assessments, and makes vendor recommendations. Teaching technology classes will be required. This position will also oversee a small team of technology-focused employees.
Provides leadership and vision for long-range plans to meet the present and future technological needs.
Plans, develops, and implements the Technology Department budget, and coordinates the Academy 1:1 Chromebook program.
BS in computer science, information systems, or related discipline; Master's degree and network certification preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in technology management, preferably in an educational environment.
Proven leadership, initiative, and communication skills are required elements of the position.
Strong understanding and technical knowledge in areas of IT security, network components, computer operating systems, AV systems, protocols, and standards; familiarity with learning management systems – Google G Suite preferred.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, parents, students, and the public; work collaboratively as a team member.
Carry out work responsibilities with strong organizational skills effectively under the pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency conditions.
