About Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School
Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School opened its doors in October of 1900 in the original, refurbished building that serves as the Middle School campus today. The school was originally run by the Glen Riddle Franciscan Sisters and has been staffed by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, Holy Spirit Sisters of San Antonio and the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa. A high school program was initiated in September of 1911 and continued until 1964, when integration opened McGill-Toolen Catholic High School to African-Americans. Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School and Parish continues to serve as a foundation for Black Catholics in Mobile.
