Bishop Moore Catholic High School is seeking a full time College and Career Specialist. The College and Career Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the College and Career Center on our campus. The responsibilities will include all aspects related to students moving on to higher education which will include aiding students with researching colleges and universities as well as career paths that line up with their interests, capabilities, and personalities. The College and Career Specialist will also meet with and facilitate the engagement of students with representatives from colleges, universities, and with career professionals. This individual will work collaboratively with the Administration, Guidance, Advancement, and Admissions departments.
An understanding that BMCHS is a Catholic High School and an appreciation and commitment to uphold the Catholic spiritual and intellectual traditions as they are the foundation of all things at the school.
Applicants who are practicing Catholics are preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in a related area: master’s or higher education degree preferred.
Holding a valid Teaching Certificate from the State of Florida or eligible for State Certification in Guidance considered a plus.
Minimum 5 years working in college admissions, advising or equivalent experience working in a High School College Readiness Center or as a High School Guidance Counselor.
Exceptional technology and data gathering skills.
Familiar with the College Application Process including the Common and Coalition Apps.
Experience with and understanding of FAFSA.
Self-Starter who is outgoing, energetic and can think on their feet.
Knowledge of career and occupational resources, trends, and opportunities.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Able to engage and motivate high school aged students.
Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
Employment is contingent on the applicant passing a full background check.
Upon employment individual will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Assist students and parents in understanding the college admission and financial aid processes by providing access to current, clear, and concise information concerning the wide-range of post-secondary educational opportunities available, college selection, entrance requirements, financial aid, curricular offering, costs, admission and financial aid deadlines, and the variety of early admission and early decision programs available.
Scheduling and facilitating college, university and career professional visits as well as facilitating college and career planning sessions.
Assisting students with access to SAT and ACT preparation and scheduling.
Engaging students with interest and career identification inventories.
Planning and follow up with students during the college planning process.
Creating a supportive environment for students and parents to eliminate or reduce unnecessary anxiety too often associated with the college admission process.
Participating and presenting at college information nights.
Assisting students and parents with the college application process and all that it entails.
Assisting students in identifying and applying for scholarships and financial aid.
Hosting small group workshops on different topics related to the college experience.
Coordinating and planning off campus visits that are related to the College and Career Center vision.
Creating and developing partnerships with local businesses and business leaders to enhance the services of the Center.
Coordinating with club sponsors, teachers, campus ministry, and guidance to organize college and career information round tables.
Assist students and parents with preparation for the separation process that will occur upon graduation and or the transition to college.
