Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School and Corporate Work Study Program is seeking a full-time Grant Writer to work on site at our school in Takoma Park, MD.
The Grant Writer will work closely with the Director of Growth and Development. This individual is responsible for identifying grant opportunities, managing submission deadlines, grant writing and editing, gathering requested materials and information including budgets from the necessary staff or faculty, and completing reports for grantors. This individual will seek funds from corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations for the High School and Corporate Work Study Program. The incumbent is actively engaged in working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with the corporate and foundation sector, as well as other key communities that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of DBCR. The position provides the expertise to advance DBCR’s interests by researching and identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on corporate guidelines and interests, and by maintaining strong communication ties with corporate and foundation donors and prospects. This individual will also assist the Communications team with copy for written and electronic mediums. Requires excellent organizational, writing, and analytical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
30% Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining corporate and foundation monetary support.
Identify emerging business leadership and industry trends with a special emphasis on developing high value-exchange corporate alliances and identify, evaluate, cultivate and solicit five- and six-figure (and larger) philanthropic commitments to support the mission and goals of DBCR.
20% Work closely with the development and corporate work study program directors, and other school staff/volunteers to create opportunities to build awareness among corporate and foundation constituencies in order to build and significantly expand positive fund-raising relationships. Identify key individuals within corporations/foundation and review corporate profiles that suggest potential relationships because of common interests.
40% Develop highly competitive proposals for corporate and foundation prospects and leverage diverse corporate and foundation goals and preferences in conjunction with DBCR goals.
Ensure the Director of Growth and Development maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate and foundation representatives, creating moves management plans related to them, compelling presentations and comprehensive fundraising proposals.
Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions
10% Maintain high quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
Ability to thoroughly explain and effectively promote DBCR and the Cristo Rey Network on calls and in writing.
Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation fundraising techniques required.
Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development.
Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations.
Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals are essential.
Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, and interact via telephone and in person with institutional representatives.
Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations, foundations.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree required, demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation fundraising experience preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with corporate and/or foundation experience, particularly with a Catholic school.
Desire to work at a faith-based educational institution with urban students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. word, outlook, excel, and PowerPoint)

Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School (DBCR) is a private, Catholic, college-prep high school that is a partnership between the Archdiocese of Washington, the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the Cristo Rey Network. DBCR was founded in 2007 in Takoma Park, MD, and now serves 400 students of diverse backgrounds from financially challenged families who live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. DBCR also has a unique Corporate Work Study Program that places students in local businesses and non-profits where they learn the expectations of the corporate world and earn over 50% of the cost of their education.
