Providence serves students of varied academic capabilities and from diverse religious, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. As a ministry of Providence St. Joseph Health, Providence High School continues the educational heritage and vision of its founders, the Sisters of Providence.
The school carries on the educational mission of the Church within the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The school participates in the total mission of the Church by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus, by creating an environment of a Christian community and by encouraging service to others.
Providence High School was founded in1955 by the Sisters of Providence as an all-girls high school. In 1974, the decision was made to go co-ed. In 1992, the school established a Board of Regents, an advisory board comprised of interested and influential members, who work in partnership with the head and help guide the academic, social, and financial stability of the school.
All that is done at Providence is guided by its vision, mission and values of compassion, dignity, justice, excellence and integrity. In addition to a strong college-preparatory program, Providence has “Focus Programs” in the areas of Medicine, Cinema Arts and Technology. Providence has enjoyed continuous accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA) and the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS). In January 1998, the Providence High School community celebrated the school's recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the United States Department of Education. This commendation of the school's continuing dedication to excellence in education and academic prowess is an ongoing source of pride for the community.
The spirit of Providence High School lives in each and every one of the school’s alumni and the school has greatly enjoyed and benefited from the return of many former students as faculty/staff members and coaches. These alumni have a great deal to offer the Providence community and view their return as a way of giving back to the unique environment that nurtured them years ago. Through the Providence of God and the love and stewardship of its faculty, staff, parents, students and other supporters, Providence High School has risen to every occasion presented over the years and continues to provide a strong values-based college-preparatory education for students.

About Educational Directions
Educational Directions is a nationally recognized educational consulting firm and an acknowledged leader in retained search for heads of independent schools. Mathew Heersche and Risa Oganesoff Heersche bring many years of experience in Catholic school and specialize in Catholic school searches.
We established the firm in 1986 and are based in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Our independent school clients range from the very small to the very large and include boarding and day schools; coed and single sex; elementary, secondary and PK–12; rural, suburban and urban; secular and religious; college preparatory and special purpose; national and international.
We have remained small by design in order to provide our clients with the same personal and timely service on which we have built our reputation for excellent service and results. We take on fewer searches in order to do them well, with time to build strong relationships with candidate prospects.
We understand that a new head of school/president must be able to deliver a multiple bottom line: enrollment, fundraising, balanced budgets, teaching and learning outcomes, professional development, career advice, parenting advice, and be a trusted advisor to the students, faculty and community.
