Saint Joseph Catholic Academy (SJCA), a college preparatory high school located in the State College/Boalsburg area near Penn State University, is seeking a student-centered, Director of College and Career Counseling. The Director of College and Career Counseling helps facilitate student achievement by working cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators and parents in making appropriate academic, personal/social and career decisions. This full-time position reports directly to the Head of School and is part of the administrative team within SJCA.

The Director of College and Career Counseling helps facilitate student achievement by working cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators and parents in making appropriate academic, personal/social and career decisions. This full-time position reports directly to the Head of School and is part of the administrative team within Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy. Responsibilities include:
Manage a caseload of less than 200 students, providing strategies, advice, support and guidance to those students and their families with the college application process in order to make their best choice for college studies.
Meet with students individually and in groups to educate and empower them on how to navigate the college process, admissions trends, and individual college options.
Counsel and assist students to identify resources for scholarships and financial aid for colleges and universities.
Navigate international students (and their agents) through all aspects of the college admissions and enrollment process for US colleges and universities.
Conduct course selection group sessions for students and parents.
Provide consultation/conference service for high school parents and teachers.
Provide summary reports for the Head of School of students' nine weeks’ grades and mid-term progress.
Produce regular communications targeting juniors and seniors throughout the school year.
Administer NCAA compliance procedures for student-athletes.
Create and submit materials to colleges in support of college applicants, including transcripts and references/recommendations. May include coordinating the faculty writing of requested recommendations for students applying to college.
Cultivate mutually beneficial working relationships with college admissions professionals and local area college counseling colleagues. Facilitate visits between students and college representatives on campus. Arrange and direct visits to relevant colleges and college fairs.
Visit college campuses to stay abreast of university offerings and become familiar with the nuances of signature programs.
Track trends in admissions and college counseling fields.
Manage the Dual Enrollment program. Be the liaison between higher education dual enrollment partners and SJCA.
Manage the Dual Enrollment credentialing needs of adjunct faculty.
Provide college scholarship resources; organize financial aid workshops and Serve as liaison between SJCA and college scholarship services.
Maintain professional networking relationships with personnel from other Diocesan and local schools.
SJCA General Responsibilities
Provide guidance and coordinate the calendars of all testing involving grades 9-12, i.e. Differential Aptitude Test/Career Interest Inventory for PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT Preparation Classes, ASVAB, Pre- and post-test counseling etc.
Planning programs and activities related to perspective student enrollment, admissions and career planning.
Develop the master schedule for high school and individual schedules for all students. Arrange for SAT and/or ACT preparatory classes to be offered on campus. May incorporate these into the daily schedule as opportunity avails.
Conduct events and educational outreach for both the student and parent communities. Including but not limited to communicating test preparation courses offered by other LEA’s, internet-based programs, and private tutors.
Develop and interpret extensive summary reports on students’ progress on standardized tests.
Pursue professional development opportunities. Including attending conferences and professional meetings to remain current with industry trends.
Collaborate with Head of School and faculty to improve the overall SJCA educational environment.
Be involved in the school community at large. Participate in committee, department and staff meetings.
Assist in developing and updating the SJCA Student/Parent Handbook, accessible to both parents and staff.
Oversee all students’ scholastic and merit award programs and ceremonies. Coordinate various high school academic award programs, merit programs, academic letter programs, etc..
Administrate the Advanced Placement Program, which includes ordering and administering AP Exams.
Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School.
Requirements for the position
Pennsylvania guidance counselor certification or the equivalent through an advanced degree.
Current Clearances: Act 151, Act 34, and Act 114 (Child Abuse, State Police, FBI)
