The President is the chief executive officer of Saint Francis High School. The President provides inspirational and strategic leadership to the school’s unique community of students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, alumni, benefactors and partners in commitment to our Catholic Holy Cross mission.
The President works collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the Brothers of Holy Cross and the school administration in establishing and implementing annual and long-term strategic goals and objectives to sustain the spiritual, academic and social mission of the school.
The President is appointed by the members of the Corporation of the Brothers of Holy Cross upon recommendation by the Saint Francis High School Board of Directors. The President is immediately responsible to the Board of Directors.
Duties of the President Saint Francis High School
Holy Cross Charism
Communicate the Holy Cross mission, values and educational vision of Saint Francis High School to all members of the school and the greater community.
Collaborate with the Moreau Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross to ensure a vibrant school for the purpose of educating students in the Holy Cross tradition; work with the Catholic Diocese of San Jose and its schools to provide a natural continuum of excellence in Catholic education.
Articulate and promote the educational vision of the school to the community and benefactors; develop partnerships with community organizations and industry.
Nurture within the Saint Francis High School community a commitment to excellence in pursuit of academic and extra-curricular achievements, an ethos of compassionate service to those in need, and an appreciation for the value of religious, cultural and socio-economic diversity.
In partnership with the Board of Directors, oversee short and long-range strategic planning to ensure the sustainability and future of the school, including implementation of the current strategic plan, Leading with Hope and Zeal.
Serve as the public face of the school, building relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni and parents by being present in the life of the school.
Drive the collaborative work of the full executive team with an emphasis on team building, mentorship and talent development in support of the school’s mission, vision and strategic goals.
Collaborate with the Principal to ensure the day-to-day operational health and practices are consistent with the mission, vision and values of the school.
Appoint and evaluate the Principal and the Institutional Leadership Team.
Oversee the operations of the business, institutional advancement, planning and facilities and technology offices.
Stewardship of Resources
Steward the financial operations and assets of the school to ensure the school’s financial viability, including oversight of the annual operating budget ($40M) and financial endowments.
Serve as the school’s chief fundraiser. Collaborate with the Institutional Advancement Office to cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations and other philanthropic entities, and develop and execute strategies in order to secure six to seven figure major gifts to support the school’s mission and strategic plan. Engage with the leadership team and the Board of Directors to maximize community participation in fundraising efforts.
Oversee the improvement and maintenance of the campus facilities and resources to ensure physical safety and security and to provide an ideal learning environment for students and employees.
Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors on the overall health of Saint Francis High School including, but not limited to: the goals of the President and the administrative team, financial viability and metrics, short and long-term planning and administrative policy.

Bachelor’s Degree and an advanced degree or equivalent training in education, business, or a related field.
Previous experience in executive leadership at a secondary school, college, non-profit, business or professional organization.
Demonstrated successful fundraising ability. Experience with soliciting six to seven figure major gifts is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in large-scale budgeting and finance; the ability to make sound business decisions in a dynamic operating environment.
Demonstrated project management experience and a successful track record of implementing a strategic plan and framework.
An innovative, visionary and strategic thinker with excellent communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills; keen attention to detail and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
A visible and collaborative leader who can work with, inspire and engage all segments of the Saint Francis High School community. Respect for alternate viewpoints, coupled with the ability to create a supportive and collegial work environment.

The new principal, Katie Teekell, was announced in March 2018 and will begin her work in July 2018.
