St. Gabriel’s Catholic School is seeking a Lower and Middle School Librarian. SGCS is a co-educational independent Catholic school serving students from PreK 3-through 8th grade in Austin, Texas. The Lower School is comprised of Pre-Kindergarten – 4th grade, and the Middle School houses grades 5-8. SGCS provides a challenging and enriched curriculum that allows graduates to achieve success in the high schools of their choice. Our teachers and staff must possess excellent oral and written skills with both colleagues and the community. The modern librarian not only is passionate about books and library science, but also STEAM integration. Thus, this position would include teaching students in all grade levels about books and research, but also coordinating with the STEAM director to deepen student learning across curriculum. The ideal candidate has experience with, and a passion for, PreK-8th grade students, has excellent classroom management skills, is creative, is an excellent team player, and has a willingness to develop expertise in social emotional learning, project based learning, STEM instruction, technology-rich, and differentiated instruction. SGCS is a 1:1 iPad school, thus teachers are expected to demonstrate meaningful skill with technology in order to create authentic learning experiences for their students.
Essential Job Functions:
Teaches PreK3-4th Grade classes on a weekly rotation in the library and D.Lab for Making
Organizes and supervises the circulation of library materials
Provides library services and materials to meet the needs of teachers and students
Creates and maintains library policies and procedures in accordance with the school and accreditation guidelines.
Selects and orders books, periodicals, vertical file material, picture collections, audiovisual hardware and software, appropriate computer programs, and materials for professional collection with approval of the divisional administration
Maintains library records, statistics, and database
Weeds the materials collection
Selects the materials for rebinding and repair
Ensures volume number and references are in compliance with accreditation standards
Supervises shelf reading, takes inventory, and keeps the library in order
Provides an opportunity for teacher and student participation in the selection of library materials
Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
Prepares library for the start of the school year by adding to the inventory all new materials received over the summer and by checking out and recording textbook delivery
Completes the school year by collecting and checking in all school books
Coordinates local book fair and other fundraising activities related to the library
