The Dean of Students is a person who strives to provide a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in accordance with theGoals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart. She or He is a person of integrity who enjoys working with young women and strikes a balance between building trusting, personal relationships with students and holding them accountable. She or He motivates girls to be gritty, especially after they make a mistake or experience a setback. She or He is a leader who is energized by having a wide scope of responsibilities while managing multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator with strong organizational skills. She or He must be open to constructive criticism and maintain confidentiality. She or He will possess an understanding of social media and digital communication tools.
As a member of the Administrative Team, the Dean of Students reports to the High School (HS) Director and collaborates closely with the Head of School, HS Director, staff, faculty, students, and parents on all matters of student life as they relate to character development, leadership, discipline, attendance, and activities.
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in counseling, education or related field is preferred. The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience working with high school students.
Responsibilities of the Dean of Students include, but are not limited to:
Administer the discipline system in the HS with the support of the HS faculty
Assemble the HS Parent/Student Handbook in collaboration with the HS Director
Coordinate a weekly calendar for faculty and students as well as all non-academic activities and assemblies, guest speakers, special events, class projects and events; this includes new student orientation, graduation, school dances, talent show, etc.
Attend Administration and Academic Team meetings
Attend Department Chair and Counseling meetings
Communicate personal and affective progress of students to parents in partnership with HS Counselor(s)
Oversee student leadership and officer training including weekly student Congress meeting
Coordinate student clubs and their faculty advisors
Assign and monitor student parking and senior privileges
Maintain budget lines appropriate to the Office of Student Life
