The American Federation for Children is seeking an education entrepreneur who is looking to bridge educational policy work with practical school-level implementation. As part of AFC’s implementation work to bring students across the nation more educational opportunity and choices, we are seeking a creative individual with experience in/with private schools who can manage relationships with both schools and school associations to better engage them in school choice policy creation and implementation. Roles and Responsibilities
Work with private schools to encourage participation in private school choice programs.
Establish strong partnerships with state CAPEs and other private school associations to better engage them in policy formation and implementation we, and our grantees, execute in states.
Work with state based staff and grantees to build better relationships with schools and increase the supply of high quality schools participating in choice programs.
Coordinate efforts to stimulate new private school supply to serve choice students in our target states and work with groups such as the Drexel Fund who are leading these efforts.
Lead the development of best-practice sharing between schools in various states/private school choice programs such as the coordination of symposium events with potential and already participating schools.
Assist with gathering more and better data from private schools on topics such as school capacity and replication.
Help form and guide a newly formed AFC private school markets advisory council to brainstorm ways to create a stronger private school market in choice states.
Qualifications and Skills
Strong commitment to assuring all students regardless of economic status, receive access to a high quality education.
Experience working or leading a private school or private school network is strongly preferred, particularly with low-income student populations.
Individual will have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education, education policy or similar field.
A creative thinker who enjoys the opportunity to make new innovative ideas a reality.
Knowledge of how private schools operate and are structured preferred.
Knowledge of private school choice policy and programs a plus.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications required (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.).
Ability to work independently; initiative taker.
